I just watched last week's episode, I thought it was the best one yet. Although I really could have done without the sex scene between Lucy and Agent Van Creepy. It does seem like the various story lines are starting to gel a little more. This is also the first episode that I actually thought Nucky seemed menacing. I really like the tinman too. The highlight of the episode though was Chalky's awesome suits.
I wonder how much they are going to play around with historical facts. The scene where they had Lansky at gunpoint was somewhat robbed of suspense if you know anything about the real Lansky.

I caught up with the last six episodes (excluding last night's) within the last week. And...yeah, word to what everyone else has said here. There is absolutely no reason with this level of talent that this show should be so boring. All the female characters suck, except Margaret. Everyone else is incredibly underwritten -- at times, I feel like I have a better handle on Capone than I do Nucky or Jimmy because at least he's one(ish) dimension written/acted well rather than a character that is supposed to be complex but isn't. The show finally seemed to pick up in the last three or four episodes, but...man. Fuck the fact that Rome and Deadwood are canceled while this show gets a huge amount of cash to shoot seven or eight pretty but empty episodes. Nucky isn't fit to wash Atia's toga or Al's boots. At least "Bored to Death" and "In Treatment" are still awesome.
Much like y'all, I'm loving Jack Huston. But the fact that a supporting character introduced three episodes ago is more compelling to me than much of the regulars speaks volumes about how inconsistent this show has been.
Also, if I never see Paz's tits again in this lifetime, that'll be fine. I am absolutely cool with the excessive nudity in True Blood but it strikes me as totally gratuitous in this show because it's so one-sided. Luciano's cock aside, we NEVER see male nudity. Come on, HBO, anyone who has seen The Dreamers knows that Michael Pitt is fine baring all.

He and Michael K. Williams rock the show. And notice neither one of them has either gotten naked or had a hot love scene. No fair!
I don't think it's boring though. I watched all 11 episodes this past weekend. Awesome.

Last night's episode was really fantastic! I loved the fight between Margaret and Nucky. And Agent Van Nelson has just lost it. Perhaps boring is the wrong word to use - as I said, it did really pick up recently. But I find myself not caring as much as I should with certain plot elements that should be exciting because I'm not invested in certain underwritten characters -- case in point, Jimmy's wife being stood up by her lesbian lover would've hit me harder if I was more invested in her. Jimmy's mom is a role that is really interesting on paper, but I'm not getting much from Gretchen Mol. (I haven't seen her in much else - is she always this blank-faced?) And I would love to see Eli get more screentime - his confrontation with Nucky was great last night.

I do agree that it's picked up in the past few weeks. Van Alder went completely nutso that was a very disturbing scene. I agree that I didn't care about Angela (Jimmy's wife) because she was just "there." I didn't even get why Mary and her husband left in the first place. That was kind of empty.
I don't care what happens to anyone except Richard Harrow (the man with half a face) and Chalky White.

So, was mom or the maid poisoning the commodore? That was unclear to me.

I think it was the mom primarily but the maid was in on it or at least aware of it. She would've gotten sick too if she was eating the same food as him.

Ah, ok. Mol is so inscrutable as his mom, I couldn't tell if she was shocked or mildly displeased by the info or what.

No thoughts on the finale? Do you think that Margaret ended up back with Nucky because she missed him or because she didn't want to be poor again. I think a big of both. She's clearly drawn to him as a person or she never would have gone to see him as after seeing his son and wife's grave, but she's also not stupid.
