Apparently prosecuting polygamy when there are no related crimes almost never happens. They usually only prosecute when it involved child brides, incest, or some other form of child abuse. There could also be financial issues - like on Big Love when they falsified time cards at the discount store so the wives would qualify for health insurance.

They got that Mark Green guy a few years ago because his 2nd, 3rd, etc. wives were filing for all kinds of public assistance and claiming no support from the kids' dad--but they all lived communally and shared food, etc. Welfare fraud is often what the get the non-child molesting/abusing ones on. And I also heard that Kody would have been fine but going on TV and flaunting it so obviously made the authorities feel like that had to at least go with the letter of the law and investigate. But I wonder if the public reality TV nature will probably get them off with a wrist slap?

I don't mind the people on the show (the adults were all over the age of consent when they got married and the kids seem well-adjusted) but it just pisses me off that this is clearly such an open secret in Utah: polygamist homeschool networks, a polygamist builder building apartment-style houses, and so on. Don't tell me that if the mainstream Mormons, who make up the majority of state government, didn't want to, they couldn't lock down this lifestyle in ten minutes. But no, let's spend all our money and our time overturning gay marrige in California. The hypocrisy, it burns.

I'm am so sick of this guy flipping his hair around. Dude, in a couple of years you're going to look like David Crosby.
I really don't know what I think of them. Lots of women with super low self-esteem chasing after a man/child. But it seems to have worked OK for them for a lot of years. But NOW? You can't tell me that Goldilocks isn't going to want to sleep with the new bride way more than the others. Adding the new cranky, f'ed up wife is really going to add the drama. Robin seems super pissy with her kids, and obviously had some sort of terrible abusive marriage.
Yep, I'm in if it goes to a second season!

This is the kind of series I am literally afraid to watch. (tiny voice) But reading the comments here makes me want to try.

In one episode they showed him after first waking up in the morning, and it was scary. I thought it was interesting when the women mentioned that they liked each other long before "falling in love" with Kody, and that if Kody were the only person they were marrying, it never would have happened. I think Robyn is the only one who has made the connection with Kody before making one with the wives. That makes me think they really are drawn to the sisterhood/family aspect of the whole situation more than Kody himself. I really think that Janelle is there for the free childcare and cooking, which cracks me up.

This is a guilty pleasure, and I can't wait for the second season, especially the second half, when the family moves to Vegas.

Ew. He's so gross. The fact that three of the four wives (Janelle excluded) all seem so enthralled with him is just a mystery to me. For the record, Robyn comes across as a lot less intelligent than the other three wives. Maybe she just isn't very articulate or is nervous on camera but she always makes the dumbest comments.
