And, thanks huntergreyson, will be sure to check it out. PAB has never really bugged me actually and TSN was a good flick!

Everything I hate about Lrrrrman is on display in the trailer: wholly-discordant music, frenetic editing to obliterate the sumptuous set design, rebranding the title to "Gatsby" and a cast of pubescent-looking adults in adult roles. Now, granted, trailers today seem to be edited in favour of ADHD-addled mayhem, but "Moulin Rouge" was as unwatchable as Michael Bay's worst.

Technically, it's still titled "The Great Gatsby" but "The Great" was in small letters in the "G". I had to look twice to notice that, though.

They mispelled "Ziegfield Follies" in those shots of Times Square! Hope they fix that before Christmas.
I read TGG in high school and for the life of me cannot remember anything about the book other than that the characters wore white clothes a lot.

I took the time to rewatch, screencap and check - yeah, it's misspelled. Whoops. Mods, is there a way we could change this thread to "The Great Gatsby (Films)" so we can talk about the other takes? It's my absolute favorite book of all time. Bar None. And I know that it can never "properly" be adapted because the experience of reading a book is so different than a film. So they're different mediums and I'm cool with that. I just enjoy, in general, being able to compare/contrasts different takes on a story/idea. For example - La Boheme v. Rent. Read this in high school, a few years ago at Dwan's book club. A local book club was doing it so I bought ANOTHER copy since mine was in storage but I ended up not being able to reread before the meeting, so I bailed. Pretty sure we filled a class with the 'let's watch the shitty VHS of the film' thing that is obligatory for any school-mandated book but it was forever ago. This clip from 1974 makes me LOL. I also completely forgot that that is SAM WATERSON as Nick.

We had to watch it in high school too, and discovering that the guy from Law & Order was once young and did movies blew my mind.

Please We need to discuss Mira Sorvino's turn as Daisy. I can't be the only one that saw that version!

I need to track it down and watch it because wasn't Paul Rudd Nick? I LOVE him in virtually everything.

They mispelled "Ziegfield Follies" in those shots of Times Square! Hope they fix that before Christmas. If they spelled it "Ziegfeld", that's correct. Florenz Ziegfeld spelled his name that way. I'm beginning to think it may not be possible to combine great acting, sumptuous design, and a faithful interpretation of this book. You'd think someone would have done it by now, and I don't think this is it. I'll watch it (on cable) for the pretty, though. ETA: Whoa! They REALLY misspelled it, didn't they?

Daisy Buchanan was so annoying in the book, I'll be curious to see if Carey Mulligan can make her not seem so. This is a hard role, I think.
