I agree. With all the lack of continuity I think its better to think of it more as a reboot rather than a true prequel.
It was excessive. The last X-Men movies also showed shirtless guys like Wolverine and Colossus too while in this movie I don't think any of the men were shirtless.

I totally didn't get this, although I guess it was obvious. The whole movie was so over the top it didn't occur to me to concentrate on that. OTOH, I did notice the movie followed one of cinema's favorite cliches: the black character is the first to go.

I saw it today and LOVED it. So much fun.
Oh...the bromance. I never really saw the appeal of Fassbender before but wow, he just brought sex in this one and I really felt the relationship between Eric and Charles. I wanted more of that. I would have loved to see more of them just playing chess and debating.
The younger mutants I didn't really feel too much. They were okay but if they hadn't been there no big loss for me. I did really enjoy Hank's transformation story here, not the one that I'm familiar with from reading the comics but a nice movie one.
January Jones? She was a crappy Emma Frost. Too bad, EF is a fabulous character but JJ was so miscast. Jennifer as Raven was okay. She was unformed but that seemed to suit the character and where she was in her life.
I'd definitely see this again. Great flick!

I saw this yesterday at a small theater in my neighborhood and was pretty entertained. [As an aside, a rude old lady cracked her gum throughout the movie, and even though I politely asked her to stop, she refused to acknowledge me... even when I followed her out of the theater with some choice words. ] Movie manners cost you nothing folks!! Anyway, back on topic...I caught the X-Men trilogy on the FX channelweekend before last, so I can't really say I'm a fan of the series or comic books, though I did enjoy the first movie. Some random observations: --Kind of surprised the character of Storm wasn't in this film. --Like the cameos! --Annoyed Kevin Bacon played a German, with an American accent. --JJ was just wooden and unbelievably thin to the point of distraction, but I did love the special effects surrounding her character. --I really loved the characters of Eric and Charles -- and the actors who played them. I went to see the film for them, and was not disappointed. It doesn't surprise me to hear that nationalities were changed to conform with Hollywood standards. Typical.

I noticed a young girl who looked like Storm (African-American with white hair) in the "contacting the world's mutants by telepathy" scene. Yeah, I remember Charles walking in one of the earlier movies where there was a flashback to he and Magneto discovering the young Rogue, and both were played by the older actors, so they were definitely meant to be older than the characters were in 1st Class. I also agree on the over-sexualization of the female characters. As a Mad Men stan, I'm pretty sensitive to anachronisms from that time period. I doubt a female CIA agent would wear a skirt that short to the office ever, much less in 1962. I think in general, all the miniskirts were pretty off.

Actually Oliver Platt's character was the first good guy to die.He wasn't an X-Man, though. True but he was a fairly prominent good guy. I don't... maybe it's because I'm not an American but the nationality issue (turning explicitly non-American good guy characters into Americans) bothers me much more than the racial issue.
