Anyone else watched this yet? Saw it today and loved it. I must admit that I haven't seen much promo for the movie and it had dropped off my radar.
It's on track to make about $53 mil in it's opening weekend and I'm hoping that's enough for a sequel to this prequel. I just read the budget was $120mil which seems pretty cheap compared to $250 mil for the new Pirates movie.
I thought the actors were fantastic - especially James Mcavoy & Michael Fassbender. I'm not a huge comic book geek so it was really fun for me to see the backstory - how they got their names, where the uniforms came from, how Professor X got injured. There were some fun cameos - one in particular that had the entire audience cheering.
After seeing Bridesmaids last week and X-Men this week, I have 2 films I can heartily recommend. It pains me that something like Hangover II (and I loved the first one and refuse to watch the second based on critics reviews) will hugely outgross both flicks which I think are vastly superior.

Just saw this and really, really, really enjoyed it. I can't wait for the sequel. I thought Mcavoy and Fassbender really held the movie together. The only thing I had a small problem with is Jennifer Lawrence. There was something about her performance that was off for me. I don't know if it's her voice or inflection but I thought she did just okay. I was far more interested in Mcavoy/Fassbender scenes than anything with her.

For me the weakest link by far was January Jones. Did she really have to spend the movie running around in her underwear? Is that one of Emma Frost's superpowers? I got the idea I was supposed to think she is super hot but I really didn't - I find her generic looking ala Gwyneth. I thought January was sleep walking her way through the movie as though she was bored with the whole thing.

I saw this last night and loved it. My whole theater seemed to like it since there was pretty thunderous applause at the end. Fassbender was the standout in terms of performance although I really enjoyed Kevin Bacon as well. I really liked Jennifer Lawrence in Winter's Bone but I agree that she was the weak link here along with January Jones. I wish they had given Nicholas Holt more to do.
I enjoyed the cameos as well. My theater broke into applause when Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) appeared.

Running around in skimpy white clothes is a huge part of Emma Frost's character in the comics. I wouldn't have minded so much of JJ didn't suck so hard.
Me too. It dropped so far off my radar that I had no idea Kevin Bacon was in it until his first scene.

Loved this movie! January Jones was the only weak link for me. I've been a big fan of James McAvoy for many years now so it's great to see him get some big roles lately. I've never seen Michael Fassbender in anything and he was fantastic. It takes some damn good acting to fill the shoes of such legends as Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen but these guys did a bang up job.
I wonder if Jennifer Lawrence will be able to continue this role (assuming there are sequels) with The Hunger Games movies taking up a lot of her time? I hope they can bring in Jean Grey and Storm in the next installment. I think Zoe Saldana would make a fantastic Storm but I think she, like Lawrence, might be too busy as she has two franchises (Star Trek and Avatar) to juggle.

Jones was bad as well but I expected more from Jennifer Lawrence.
Still loved the movie as a whole, though.

I've pretty much come to conclusion that January Jones, though amazing looking just isn't all that good an actress. Michael Fassbender on the other hand is a good actor but you could you could hear his real accent pretty strongly during the last act.
Overall I liked it though I was annoyed Banshee was made into a generic American kid - he's Irish in the comics.

I agree about Fassbender's accent at the end of the movie - I was like, Magneto suddenly sounds like he's channeling Bono. I'm surprised they let that slide and didn't have him redo the dialogue.
Damon Lindelof posted on his twitter that Emma Frost's 3 mutant powers are " telepathy, transformation to solid diamond and ,last but not least, sucking at acting". Ha!

For me the weakest link by far was January Jones. Did she really have to spend the movie running around in her underwear? Is that one of Emma Frost's superpowers? JJ's 60's outfits were ridiculous. Why not have her in real 60's clothes (which we know she looks great in) instead of those cartoony Austin Powers fembots outfits? I have to say, how sexualised the women were in this movie annoyed me. I know it's a comic book movie, but the last lot of X-Men movies weren't like that - only Mystique was naked, but it this one, every female character had to be in her underwear at least once and 2 were strippers/escorts. Is Matthew Vaughn taking tips from Michael Bay? (I kid. Kind of). Still, exploitation of the female body aside, it was such an enjoyable movie. I effing LOVED Michael Fassbender in it and James McAvoy was adorable ("Raven, please, put some clothes on!") and the two of them were adorable together. And even though Jones was a weak link, I thought Emma Frost's power looked really cool so I didn't mind her presence too much. I really liked what they did with this prequel, because even though the backstory that was given didn't match up to the comic books exactly, it was true to the characters that had been established in the previous films and made sense for them.
