I thought I was spoiled for this. I knew {Spoiler}Robert Redford was bad , but the spoiler I saw said he was the Red Skull. I spent the entire movie waiting for him to peel off his face. What? LOL, someone lied to get you off the scent! (I recently told a friend straight up that there were no major character deaths in Sons of Anarchy...but it was for her own good.)

They did and I was still surprised by the reveals. Not Bucky because I read the comics.

The initial reviews I saw for this movie had me thinking it was bad, but damn... it was excellent!
Using Captain America as the moral linchpin to tell a story about the fine line between being secure and being dominated, and using the counterpoint of the black Widow as someone who has regrets about the things she's had to do to to walk that line - very good storytelling. I would have wished they had clarified the Winter Soldier's mental state somewhat, but I suspect that will be cleared up later. I especially loved the Falcon - a clearly defined regular guy with an awesome back piece - seriously, screw all other superpowers, I just want those wings.
Later in the day after I watched this movie, I made the mistake of watching the latest Superman movie. Both of these guys are super-boy scouts, but the Superman movie was so awful in comparison - too much angst thrown into a Michael Bay environment, with the sketchiest of plotlines and character development. Captain America: The Winter Soldier was So Much Better it wasn't even funny.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier was So Much Better it wasn't even funny. Slightly O/T: I still haven't been able to bring myself to watch the latest incarnation of Supes. I've heard horrific things about it:the last half hour is pointless 9/11 imagery, a wafer thin plot, a shoehorned Lois Lane, a personality free Clark with heavy handed Jesus comparisons, a morally challenged (to say the least!) Pa Kent, murder by the hero, and a callous indifference for human lives by Superman. Yeah. I don't even think I could watch it for snark value.

Speaking of Supes... JustJaredSomething tells me...biggest April box office ever...that Warner Bros will blink and move Superman vs. Batman to another date.

Oh God... the thought of Ben Affleck as Batman shoehorned into the mess I watched this weekend... No amount of Pretty on Henry Cavill is going to save that.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier was So Much Better it wasn't even funny. I thought the focus on both Steve and Sam Wilson as veterans (and Sam's counseling of returning vets with PTSD) was an insightful way to approach the characters. It was topical, and considering it's a comic book blockbuster, a pretty nuanced bit of characterization. Most of all, it highlighted the idea of duty requiring sacrifice in a way that was much more quietly effective than the buckets o' angst style in Man of Steel.

Did anyone else find CE's face really distracting? Sometimes he looked like he had too much makeup on and it was too perfect/too smooth/too pale, other times he looked completely normal. I don't follow comic books or anything, just favor action movies and love the man candy, and it was enjoyable. I like Thor the character more but the more earthly stories make more sense to me. I love Sebastian Stan. Long way from Gossip Girl he is come. I don't know if I caught it more having read your comment before seeing the movie but it was pretty noticable. He was really pale with red lips in one scene, like a hot kabuki mask. Did anyone catch who Peggy Carter was supposed to have married?

Has anyone seen Civil War? Absolutely loved it. Won't mind seeing it again. Favorite characters were Ant Man and Spiderman.

I loved Civil War! Gotta say, Falcon steals the show for me. Anthony Mackie just seems so 1000% enthusiastic to be there and it perfectly fits his character. I honestly could have watched a whole movie of him and Bucky squabbling about stupid shit.
