the consensus usually was that Joshua Jackson and Michelle Williams were the better actors on that show. Still are. LOL I doubt that Katie is jealous. I get this feeling that she feels perfectly fine in the place that she is. She can make random movies, people are nice to her, and she is happy with her daughter and life. She can live comfortably and was able to get out of a cult relationship. I'm sure she'd do everything possible to keep Tom out of their lives, too. I can't help thinking that her apparent friends-with-benefits thing with Jamie Foxx might have been exactly what she preferred at the time. She'd just come out of a relationship where she had a minder standing outside the door when she went to the bathroom. A guy who had no claim on what she did when he wasn't around sounds like a refreshing change- plus, she didn't have to deal with Tom pitching a fit about strange men being around Suri (I'm sure he would have in the beginning.)

But back when she married Tom? I have little doubt (as little as anyone can who actually doesn't know the people except via "Online Expert," lol) she saw BIG LEAGUE STARDOM in her future. Don't forgot, on Dawson's Creek, she was the chosen one--the one who got smoke blown up her ass by the showrunners/producers/writers. When the show ended and MW started getting all sorts of accolades, not to mention awards noms, she probably thought "hey, that's supposed to be me." I think that mindset is another reason she thought she won the Hollywood lottery when Tom came a'calling.

I think Katie started out ok post Dawson's but then stalled. BB was supposed to be her ticket to the big leagues. No one signs on to a superhero film hoping to lessen their star power, as well as getting engaged to Tom Cruise after a few months. She definitely wanted the A list at one point. But the TomKat circus over took everything else, she got replaced in TDK and ended up barely working for years. There are also rumours that Tom didn't want another Nicole situation where she became a huge star in her own right and discouraged anything other than random stuff like Mad Money. I'm still fascinated by that relationship and what Katie did and didn't know about what she was getting in to and what agreements were made. I know theirs isn't the only one where it is alleged arrangements were made but it but all the rumours were so wild and even if you take the idea that she was stitched up a little by the writer the W article is still insane. www.wmagazine.com/story/katie-holmes

I think that mindset is another reason she thought she won the Hollywood lottery when Tom came a'calling. Yes, that's exactly it. She never appeared to be in that mindset back in the day, but clearly she's got a different focus now. She was the "IT" girl in such a foolish way as there was no way she could handle the load like MW takes on now. She just doesn't have the range and I bet after her brainwashing sessions, it changed her overall idea of how to make it in Hollywood now that she was TC's wife. When the roles didn't come in or work to her career's advantage I bet that was the beginning of the end, among other things. I'm sure she's grateful that she got out alive and with her dignity and child.

Not to mention how smug and unlikeable she became for a bit there. I remember her practically incoherent interview with David Letterman. She came off like an idiot but she also seemed very full of herself. Bad link, featherhat.

I can't help thinking that her apparent friends-with-benefits thing with Jamie Foxx might have been exactly what she preferred at the time. She'd just come out of a relationship where she had a minder standing outside the door when she went to the bathroom. A guy who had no claim on what she did when he wasn't around sounds like a refreshing change- plus, she didn't have to deal with Tom pitching a fit about strange men being around Suri (I'm sure he would have in the beginning.) This is exactly what I thought of their relationship at the time. They both had their separate lives and careers and got together for occasional romantic companionship. He let her live her life and she let him live his. When they seemed to get more serious, exclusive, and public, that's when it fell apart. I thought they were cute together. A lot of TV actresses try to "level up" their careers after they leave big shows, Jennifer Aniston, Katherine Hiegl, Jennifer Garner, Michelle Williams, the list goes on. Katie got some well regarded film roles, but when Tom Cruise love bombed her, she suddenly had visions of Nicole Kidman's career in her head. I imagine that her entire perspective on life, relationships, and career shifted dramatically after she escaped a cult marriage with her daughter. She seems happy with how her life has turned out.

That W magazine link is nuts!
I forgot just how cultish she sounded right from the start. Thanks for the link featherhat
What are you feeling right now Katie: "Tom is amazing!" How do you navigate a new relationship with so much fame: "Tom is amazing!" What's your favorite color: "Tom is amazing!" How many fingers am I holding up: "Tom is amazing"
yikes

The W magazine interview is completely bonkers, but I have to say I think she looks gorgeous. I think she could have really had a decent career if it weren't for him.

I will never forget this interview. It's up there with Plum Sykes' profile of Gwyneth.

I’ve never liked Katie Holmes, actually resented her because she was the Golden Child of Dawson’s Creek. I couldn’t understand why everyone was all salivating over her when Michelle was right there.
I’m happy she and Suri escaped the cult’s clutches but she wasn’t a great actress.
