Without knowing much about the person Jessica Chastain was based on, it's hard to say whether or not she captured the essence of that person. We don't know what Maya (not her real name) looks like, what she sounds like, or what her mannerisms are. It's possible that Maya herself was considered "miscast" by her peers in her real life role as a CIA operative and they didn't buy it. I'm not sure how things could have been done differently. From what I've read the real life "Maya" is arrogant and not a very likable and warm person, which probably made it a little tricky to write her character as the protagonist the audience roots for.

All my arty/filmy-type friends just *love* SPRING BREAKERS, but I hated that movie so much it makes me want to punch a kitten in the face. HATED. IT.
It's just come out on dvd, so I get to hear how awesome it is all over again.

I finally watched it and I'll admit it- I thought The Hobbit was dull. There were a few scenes that were fun (yes, the rabbit chase wasn't in the book but it was at least amusing) but for the most part it dragged. And the goblin stuff felt like a rerun of FOTR in Moria, only it was cool then.
And yes, Richard Armitage is hot, but not enough to make up for the dullness.

I saw The Lone Ranger on Saturday and I didn't hate it. I didn't love it either, it was way too long and of course there was Johnny Depp doing whatever the hell it is he does instead of acting these days, but I didn't hate it. Parts of it were very entertaining and Armie Hammer has some decent comic chops. And William Fichtner and Tom Wilkinson played the villains and were awesome at it.

I thought it was dull and just plain ridiculous. Martin Freeman was so cute, though.

I spent a good portion of the movie thinking Jared Padalecki could've played that role*. I didn't hate it and am wondering why the fuss, but then again, I didn't hate Man of Steel at all either and actually look forward to a next one if it's made. *eta Of course he sorta plays that role < "wrong brother" (depending on which you favor)>, anyway, on Supernatural < slapsticky, comedic and all>

I feel odd admitting this, considering that at the time I just thought it was a sort of weak and odd movie, but the scariest film I saw in 2012 was Skyfall. I'm still having nightmares about Javier Bardem taking out his teeth and going, "Look upon your work..."
Yikes.

The LOTR nostalgia was powerful enough that I didn't totally hate the Hobbit, but the "plot" was effing ridiculous. Walk over here, fight some monsters. Walk over there, fight some monsters. Climb a mountain, fight some monsters. Lather, rinse, repeat. I almost burst out laughing at the end when the giant horizon stretched out, and it was like, "OH BOY!! Two more WHOLE MOVIES of walking and monsters!!!" In fairness, I also really hate the book (despite enjoying the LOTR books).

Well, it's been more than a month, so does it count as a double-post?
Anyway, thank you Netflix for reminding me about this one: The Avengers. Mediocre as hell.
