Ok;
1. Love "Moonstruck", it's the only Nic Cage movie I like. Also Cher is fucking gorgeous in that film. 2. Liked "A Few Good Men", it was the only Tom Cruise movie I liked. Otherwise my response to him was usually "No...does not compute". 3. I love May the Fourth. "Star Wars" are my comfort movies, and while I didn't really like the prequels, the first series--and the new ones? Are making me very happy.
I will return to my regularly scheduled snarking now.

Ah, Chasing Amy... This movie was released at EXACTLY the right time for me. I was in the midst of a raging unrequited crush with the drummer in a band I was recording at the time, coincidentally named Amy. Smart, talented, funny, spitting image of a young Kathy Ireland.... Naturally, she's a lesbian. A fact I learned/realized when I finally screwed up my courage and told her my feelings. "'What's a Nubian?' Bitch, you almost made me laugh!" This was my same experience with Chasing Amy. It wasn't about the gender. It was about the person. And I, too, was in love with someone at the time who was, and still, is unfortunately for me, straight. But he does love me as a friend, so I have that. I thought it was one of the best love stories of the 90's. And my Ben Affleck crush has cooled but never died.

I just watched "Manchester by the Sea" and I thought it was one of the worst things I've seen in a long time. What's worse is that the person who wrote it went to my school. Ouch!
Seriously, that movie felt three...no four hours long.

I just watched The Untouchables for the first time in years, and a few things stood out: 1) Kevin Costner is a lousy actor,and I really wish someone else had played Ness. I swear to God at some points he sounds like a petulant teenager (whining at Capone after Wallace is killed), and even yells in a monotone. 2) The music is so overwrought it's distracting. During the scenes with Ness' wife I could barely hear them over the twinkly music. 3) The movie is gorgeous: the sets, the suits, young Andy Garcia, the cars...I love it all.

I actually liked Costner's performance, and I am NOT a fan of his otherwise. I will never get over Dances with Wolves over Goodfellas. I don't think his characterization was wrong -- Ness was a dorky desk jockey, who tried to make himself look tough and really just made himself look even more stupid to the cops. No one respected him.
I think the monotone was Costner's attempt at the flat Chicago accent. But yes the wifey scenes have always been annoying, and unnecessary since Ness wasn't married.
The Untouchables is one of my favorite movies!!

Another Untouchables fan here. I like Costner, and generally tolerate the weak spots in his acting/career, so his style didn't bother me in this movie. It's Connery I can't stand, even if his particular schtick worked well for the kind of character he was playing in The Untouchables. You don't know how many times I've actually wound up quoting from this film, including actually saying, "Mr. Ness--I do not approve of your methods!"

This was my Unpopular movie confession years ago and it's still the same- I have not seen Sound of Music. And I don't want to.

The discussion in the Elizabeth Banks thread reminded me of the following movies I haven't seen either in whole or more than one chunk or two: Jaws, Jurassic Park, Schindler's List, any of the Indiana Jones movies that aren't Crystal Skull, Super-8. I haven't seen E. T. since it was in theatres. I thought Close Encounters was extremely boring. Upon visiting Wikipedia, I suppose I haven't seen most of Spielberg's movies.
I love the Sound of Music! I know it's not accurate and the music isn't the best but I don't care. The story has grown with me from the first time I've watched it through every rewatching.

ET. I was RIGHT in the demographic for ET as a little kid (I think I was 4 when it was released? Maybe 3?). I think I loved the movie, but was scared of ET. My mom got me an ET poster for my bedroom, and hung it on my closet door--and I always kept the door open after that.
