I recently saw FILMWORKER, a documentary about Stanley Kubrick's right hand man Leon Vitali, and it reminded me what a piece of shit Eyes Wide Shut is.I hate it so much. All this talk about Angelina Jolie's recent shenanigans, and I'm reminded that I must be one of the 3 people on Planet Earth who love the movie The Tourist. It's quirky, she is completely over the top with the glamour. I think I figured it out pretty soon into it, but maybe we were supposed to? Paul Bettany is unintentionally hilarious, especially at the ending with the safe where he gives a facial expression that made me laugh out loud.

I watched Eyes Wide Shut and thought it was a horrible mess and I know nothing about film making or film criticism. I remember it kept going over schedule and over budget during filming, and there were rumors of Tom and Nicole drama so I was morbidly curious. The only thing I can say about is that it was beautiful. Storytelling sucked but it looked good.

I don't know if this is unpopular or not, but Henry Cavill is out as Superman in the DCEU movies, and I am not the least bit upset. He looked the part, but his Superman did absolutely nothing for me.
There are rumors that they are considering Michael B Jordan to replace him, which I think I would like (I need to see him as a do-gooder. He plays grey characters/villains well). But I'm sure a certain segment of the fanboy population will freak out.

The only thing I can say about is that it was beautiful. Storytelling sucked but it looked good. It's not the most entertaining movie, but I do love Eyes Wide Shut for its subtext. The dialogue is full of culty echolalia and blink and you miss it moments like elite rich people furiously fucking on top of the back of a bent over servant. Kubrick, as always, was trying to say something with this movie. The imminent dissolution of the Cruise-Kidman marriage after filming is a part of the mystique for me. The movie was very "cults are real and cults are bad" and, of course, Tom Cruise was, and still is, in a cult, the very same cult Kubrick's estranged daughter was in. Maybe the subject matter was too close to the major players involved to make this movie work as well as it should have, but I still find it intriguing and fascinating just based on all the IRL elements that weave through it.

I don't care about Avengers Endgame. Since Seattle has a pretty nerdy culture (or maybe I just live/work near a bunch of them, lol) everyone I know has secured tickets for opening day. I'll see it when it comes to the streaming services, which is how I saw Infinity War. Of course that means I'll be spoiled, and I don't care. It's obvious that all or most of the people who were evaporated will be restored- duh! Thank you for letting me get that off my chest!

I'm WAY more excited for the Falcon and Winter Soldier series that was greenlit for Disney's streaming service, than I am for Endgame (spoilers for Infinity War at that link - probably well-known spoilers but I'll warn nonetheless!).

I only saw few of the other Marvel movies, and I only went to see Endgame because I have A-List now. I liked it and all, but coming home and reading Twitter and other social media sites about it, I guess maybe I don't think it's as wonderful as most people because I didn't see all of the other MCU films. Again I liked it, but there's so many holes in it that even I could see despite only seeing a few of the other films. So overhyped to me. I mean I get that it's pretty amazing that they've been building towards this with more than 20 films, so I give them a lot of credit for that. It still doesn't mean that there weren't a lot of problems in Endgame though, imo.

I don't care about any of the Avengers movies. So there! Me either! I've never seen any of them and I don't plan to. The nice thing about being on the outside of a massive fandom is that it's a great time to go to a different movie. While 7 theaters are packed to the gills with comic book movies/Star Wars/whatever, the other few theaters are usually pretty empty and enjoyable for semi-private movie theater experiences.

My newest UO about a film: Joker is a melodramatic piece of crap. So is Joaquin Phoenix's performance. Almost unwatchable, really. Blech.
