I have seen it and while it's not that great, it's not as bad as the trailer makes it look. It is a little cheesy and a bit heavy handed with the metaphors but it's...okay. I love horses and gorgeously shot views of the English countryside so I may be a wee bit biased.

Wasn't it "Gone With The Wind: The Musical"? I remember laughing my arse off at the "get those flies back, we need to do another take" line.
I agree about "War Horse". It seems like everyone I know has said "Oh, God, just the TRAILER reduced me to a sobbing mess", whereas I've seen said trailer several times and have remained completely unmoved.

Hah. My family has hearts of stone because whenever the War Horse commercial came on over the holidays one of us would crack a joke about it and we would laugh.

You might want to sit down. Robert Downey Jr's creative period effectively died after "Zodiac" and he's just playing Robert Downey With Different Accents now. His Sherlock Holmes is functionally identical to Tony Stark which is functionally identical to his awards-show persona. And he's getting paid craploads of money for it. I don't think I'll even bother pirating his next efforts.

I think he's enjoying finally having some big blockbuster success, but I hope he doesn't rest on his laurels for the rest of his career and will head back into "Zodiac" and "Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang" territory.

My possibly unpopular opinion is that I think RDJ deserved an Oscar nomination for Tropic Thunder.

Exactly. I'm convinced he would've won that year if not for Heath Ledger. But I do think he's been coasting since then, he's just been playing variations on himself/Tony Stark. I still find him very entertaining though. But he hasn't done anything on the level of Chaplin in ages.

Pretty much everything bstewart said also applies to Depp and his endless magical manchildren for Burton. Seriously, though, it's not like they lack for money and I'm sure they're getting interesting scripts - what harm would it do to say yes to a smaller character part in an ensemble piece or an indie?
My UO: I think Ledger was overrated in TDK. I thought Eckhart did an equally good job. I thought Heath gave a more richly shaded performance that in I'm Not There or Brokeback Mountain. For as acclaimed as he is, Nolan is not that brilliant with actors -- many, many talented people tend to come off as one-note or mere pawns in the plot. (JGL and Page in Inception, for example).
(Fun fact I just learned from IMDB trivia: Craig was actually first choice for RDJ's role in Zodiac.)

I'm not really disagreeing, but Ledger was perfectly fine in a seriously underwritten role -- or, rather, a role which has never really had much of an arc in either comics or prior movies. I guess I expected more from the people who brought considerably psychological interest to the fore in "Begins". I think he was less overrated than over-( and pre-)loved. Ledger was revelatory -- transcendent, even -- in "Brokeback".
