Yeah, Peeta's a pretty lame character to begin with. He reminds me of the classic "nice guy - I'll just be your friend and hope you eventually notice me and I can guilt you into liking me because I like you and I'm sooo nice!" trope. At least in the books he was supposed to have a charismatic, humorous personality that sort of explains why Katniss thinks the way she does about him being the one to save. JH is just so utterly lacking in charisma and acting ability that he just comes across as a piece of drywall.

Plus he is a hobbit compared to Gale and Katniss. He was supposed to be big and bulky like a wrestler no?

Looks are subjective. Reading other threads, some posters think Gale is average looking, and in Jennifer Lawrence's thread, a few think she's not attractive. Eye of the beholder, and all that.
I don't find Josh Hutcherson to be homely; I think he's boyishly cute. I don't think he was big in the books, just strong. You dont have to be large to be strong. The movies reinforced that he was strong, to a degree. He's supposed to be sensitive and thoughtful, and I think JH does a good job of it.
Katniss also bonds with Peeta because he is one of the few who truly understand what she went through.

Josh Hutcherson just looks weird to me. His head and jaw proportions are just way off.

haha. Someone here actually brought that to my attention. I always forget it's there until someone says something and then I get a good laugh all over again. Ahh, Rob.

Life got in the way when this movie came out but I finally rented it last night via Redbox. I'm always impressed with how closely they stay with the book, i've just been so used to being burned by books turned into movies. (Full Disclosure- I've never watched any of the HP movies, i've seen clips of them through commercials and what-not but never the movie in its entirety).
It wasn't until I read this thread that I found out people were bothered by the lack of Peeta and Katniss' chemistry, but they never really had any in the book either, it was always one-sided in Peeta's part. Sure, the book did a better job of making Peeta a better character (there are just some small things they either left out of the movie or it didn't crossover into the movie well) but overall in the book, Katniss never really had an unexplainable desire for Peeta. The only thing that's ever bothered me about Josh Hutcherson is that he's short, but then again, I never pictured Katniss to be as tall as JL when I was reading the book.
Watching the movie makes me want to reread the series again.

I am digging the propaganda-esque marketing for the movie.
And that teaser really does have a bit if a spoiler for non-book readers.
