I thought the books got worse and worse as the series progressed. The movie Catching Fire was much better than the book so the more they can get away from the source material for Mockingjay, the better the movie will hopefully be.

Final Mockingjay trailer. They're really selling it as an all out action movie. Meh. I was however surprised at how well Jlaw and JHutch sold their lines. The "you'll burn with us" line always came off so cheesy in the books. I'm more pumped for Part II with brainwashed, unstable Peeta. And according to an interview, it's been pretty much confirmed that Part I ends with the choke out scene. I can hardly wait.

Just come back from seeing this and I did enjoy it. I do understand the criticism that's it's not a lot of story for a two hour movie but if you read the book then you know that the real action happens in the second half.
How on earth did they make Josh Hutcherson look the way he did towards the end? Freaked me out tbh.

How on earth did they make Josh Hutcherson look the way he did towards the end? Freaked me out tbh. They CGI'ed his face and body to make him starved, but it was actually counter-productive, cause he shouldn't have had the strength to go coo-coo bananas on Katniss, and throw off Haymitch like he did. I've read the books, and saw the leaked gifs on tumblr, but it still didn't prepare me for that scene. I was too stunned to move. I sat slack-jawed from the time he attacked Katniss until the credits rolled. It felt like a funeral leaving the theater. People were too shocked to talk. The movie overall was well done, and a faithful adaptation, however, it does suffer for being the holding spot until the finale in another YEAR! Ugh. Only time I teared up was when District 5's rebels were singing Hanging Tree when they went to attack the dam. Ugh. It gives me chills just thinking about it.

It was alright, I guess. As has been mentioned many times, it didn't need to be stretched out into two movies so quite a bit felt like filler.
I still think Josh Hutcherson is a terrible Peeta. Poor guy has zero on-screen charisma and zero romantic chemistry with J-Law. Not-Thor fits his role better but still don't see much chemistry with J-Law. But then I felt like the whole love triangle felt really forced in the book so it might just be that I don't see any Peeta/Gale/Katniss romantic chemistry.
The scenes of the different districts carrying out their rebellions were very well done and some of the more effective ones in the movie.
Loved that they scrapped the Katniss prep team for Effie. Elizabeth Banks kills in that role so it was nice that they gave her more to do than in the book (IRRC, she was mostly absent with only a throw away mention at the end?). Nice touch that in each scene she had modified the District 13 outfit to be more and more stylish.

I think that was the best change they made. I felt like in the book that Suzanne Collins forgot about Effie and the brief amount of time she was in it was an afterthought, it annoyed me even just reading it. I kept wondering about where Effie was.
I did love how her outfits got more and more elaborate as the movie went on, that cape was awesome.

"The one thing that could use a revolution is that hair." - Effie talking about President Coin. I liked the movie but agree that there wasn't a whole of story in there. Lionsgate is milking this franchise for everything penny they can get. You can't really blame them as it worked so well for Harry Potter and Twilight. Jennifer Lawrence just elevates the material so much though. The veteran supporiting actors were also excellent. I was sad to see the "In Loving Memory of PSH" at the end. Did I miss it or was Finnick's wife/girlfriend even mentioned in the Catching Fire movie? He was so upset about her whereabouts in this one but I couldn't even remember her from the last one.

They did - you got a quick glimpse of her when Katniss was watching the footage of Mags volunteering for Annie at the reaping, and Finnick hears her screams while Katniss hears Prim's screams when the jabberjays swarmed them. Johanna explained to Katniss who Annie was to him afterwards. It wasn't much, but there were a couple mentions.

Saw it last night and it was fine, definitely a filler movie. Wish I could care about the Katniss/Peeta love story but those two have no chemistry and the fact that why is there even a choice for Katniss in her mind. Gale is a total babe and Peeta is a burden to all those around him.

I only remember that she was in it because all the book fans were complaining that she looked so old! [/Betty Draper] I heard JLaw saying she hates to sing and embarrassed herself as a kid singing at school, but she was really not bad at all in the movie. I'm pretty sure Taylor Swift has sounded worse at multiple awards shows. The Hanging Tree is #2 on US iTunes right now. I've only read the first two books and...romance was really not a strong point of the series. I guess they're in a bleak dystopian future and Katniss isn't the most sentimental person, plus things have to be kept tame so parents will still buy it for their twelve year olds. As I watched Mockingjay I was reminded me of the recent SNL parody trailer of YA movies where the characters were instantly in love and the movie got rated G for "asexual kissing".
