Her dress looks like she wanted to participate in the "wear a gold dress to match the trophy when you think you're going to win" thing, but didn't want it to be obvious that is what she was doing. I wasn't crazy about the dress. I wish she'd gone with straight up gold.

I disliked the hem of the dress. A LOT. Just felt very clunky and dated (or maybe I'm out of touch with trends that have come back in). The top, I actually did like.

The hem of the dress felt very Tammy Faye to me, so maybe that's what she was going for. I liked the top, too.

Yeah, I liked everything but the ruffle at the bottom.
I still haven't seen the movie because I find TFB so annoying I don't even want to watch Jessica as TFB. But she's a great actress. I thought Nicole Kidman nailed Lucille Ball, and Olivia Coleman is outstanding always. This felt like a "she's due for an Oscar" win to me.

I like her, and I agree, this award was for her body of work over the past 10 years. I was on the fence about watching the Tammy Faye movie, but I will watch it for her.
I liked what she attempted with her speech, but like Renee Zellweger before her, if you are going to say something about issues, keep it short and focused. Test it out on your family, and ask them to summarize what you just said; if they can't do it in one sentence, then re-write it. Joaquin Phoenix doesn't want me to milk or eat cows - message received! I don't really know what Jessica was trying to say except that she cares about stuff.
I think Jessica made an effort to arrive early and take her seat in the auditorium so she could clap for the people in the categories that were cut from the main broadcast. It seemed like she was there crying for everybody who got one of those awards. I think she's a nice person.

I think she's a nice person. Yeah, me too. I started following her early in her career, when she just had a Facebook page and obviously posted things herself. She came across as a well-adjusted, normal, nice person. I credit that to her not getting famous until her 30s. Her sister died from suicide, and I appreciated that she made the connection between bigoted anti-LGBT legislation and the mental well-being of gay and trans people. She could've practiced her speech a bit more, but by that point in the ceremony everyone seemed shaken. It sucks that her big night (and all the other winners) was overshadowed.
