Her Vanity Fair afterparty dress is gorgeous: linkGorgeous! I wish she had worn that for the ceremony. I absolutely hated the dress she wore. Unflattering; peculiar color combo. I was rooting for her and I'm glad she finally won.

I will go rogue and say that I actually liked her ceremony dress. It was interesting. I was also rooting for her. She is a great actress and I think deserved it overall.

I like the green dress, it's very mermaid-ish.

I really liked her ceremony dress too, I thought it was pleasingly mermaid-y (as is her after party dress). I do have to wonder if she had a different after party dress for if she didn't win, that one screams victory lap! (As it should.)

I saw a few comments saying it was sort of a homage to Tammy Faye. I could see that with all the color and interesting style choices in the body of the gown. But that green dress is DIVINE. Wow. What a dress!

Guess I’m the weirdo who loved her Oscar ceremony dress (not boring black or red, which dominated this year’s red carpet) and I really loved her acceptance speech.
I can understand if people thought her speech was a bit all over the place; she didn’t read from a sheet of paper, and it felt sincere and heartfelt.
Renee’s and Joaquin’s Oscar acceptance speeches from 2020 were absolute, muddled train-wrecks and were embarrassingly bad (enshrined in a “How Not to Accept an Award” handbook).
A lot is going on outside of the bubble of Hollywood, and I’m glad she acknowledged that (Ukraine, GBLTQ+ rights in the USA, women’s rights in the USA, COVID-19 isolation, suicide prevention, etc.)
Also, I got to know the that she has a second daughter named Augusta!
Unfortunately, the actions of Will Smith really soured the entire ceremony, and ruined the wins afterwards, including Jessica’s (I think she should’ve won for Zero Dark Thirty).

Why oh why didn’t she wear that green dress to the ceremony which is not just divine in itself but particularly perfect on her, in colour (for her red hair), and cut, with her slim curves. She looks resplendent.
I’m not a fan generally of different after party dresses whether for awards shows or even the bride changing after ceremony for reception. I just like the idea of that dress being for the every aspect of the same event.

I just like the idea of that dress being for the every aspect of the same event. I tend to agree. I just can't begin to fathom the logistics involved. I know they have stylists and assistants but I can't imagine changing my hair, makeup, nails, accessories, and dress. It would take me at least an hour, maybe an hour and a half. That's 90 minutes that I could be partying or eating! Can you imagine how hungry you would be after sitting through that ceremony and not being able to have any food around for fear of spilling all over yourself? The only reason I would want a different outfit would be to change into something more comfortable, but it seems they go from fancy to also fancy. That being said, I did like both of Jessica's dresses, though I preferred the green.

Separate dresses for the after parties are here to stay, unfortunately. I think the original premise was supposed to be that the ceremony gowns can be stifling and uncomfortable, and the after-party dress was something more comfortable and easier to relax and dance in. That's obviously not the case as everyone now wears full formal ensembles to each. Which means it's 100% about materialism and designers (including dress, shoe, purse and jewelry) getting more free advertising. I hate it.
IMO, Jessica's green dress was not as terrible as her ceremony dress, but both were bad and unflattering.

I came to accept ceremony then party dresses when I realized that the practice allows more designers to have their moment in the spotlight for awards nights.
