A few months back, someone posted the script synopsis to Prometheus on AICN. Lindelof denied it was the real deal. Seems to me it was mostly true. I was ultimately unimpressed. This review kinda makes me want to see it, but I'm not sold on it. Seems everything I needed to know was shown in the trailers.

This was boring, too long and full of plot holes. Trying to do way too much here. The only good thing about it, and it was excellent was Fassbender. He was fantastic in his role and made me believe everything little thing he did and why he did it. The rest? Dreck.
As a stand alone human/alien meet your maker movie it didn't work AT ALL for me. To say it's a prequel to the Alien movie is to do that movie, which is masterpiece, IMO, a great disservice.

Trying to do way too much here. YES! I'm still trying to figure out a few things: 1) Why did Weyland think an alien would grant him youth/eternal life? Also, for a really old dude, he had really young looking feet. 2) If you're an archaeologist/scientist on a new planet, why would just toss off your helmet/ poke an alien/ wander off to have sex at odd moments? 3) Why didn't the screenwriters stick to the idea of mutation? I thought that was the most interesting part of the entire movie: an alien that literally mutates every time it comes into contact with a new biological specimen. 4) Why was David so human-like? I know that he's supposed to seem human, but I don't remember the androids from the previous movie being so malicious or smirky. ETA: This also had to be the dumbest ending ever. I know Shaw is a scientist, but to declare she wants to find the Engineers and ask why they want to kill humans is just I wish she had said she wanted to find a way home, load up some nuclear weapons, and go back and wipe them all out.

4) Why was David so human-like? I know that he's supposed to seem human, but I don't remember the androids from the previous movie being so malicious or smirky. Unlike the other mass production androids I get the idea that at least this David is very much the personal servant of his creator. That same creator is openly comptetuous in front of him ("he lacks a soul"; ie Weyland is saying that for all his abilities David is inferior to a human like Weyland himself) and Weyland isn't the only one. Meredith despises him and Holloway is pretty much an aggressive dick to him from word go. I think the pool table talk between Holloway and David is very revealing.

Count me in as feeling let down by the plot. I don't like the "human beings are unique because we are consistently irrational, even in the face of hard evidence against our beliefs" message (i.e., Noomi Rapace's character's refusal to accept the arbitrary/malevolent motives of the "engineers"). I think they were going for something inspirational but it just seemed dumb to me.
The effects, alien stuff, Charlize, Idris, and Fassbender were all great, though!

It was a good summer spectacle movie, but the more I think about it, the decisions made by characters doesn't make sense.
However, I was wondering if David had his own agenda, and <<manipulated the humans around him to get to the Engineer homeworld.>> I just felt that we were shown him watching "Lawrence of Arabia" and styling his appearance after Peter O'Toole in that film for a reason. That, and reading Shaw's dreams when she was in the deep freeze, and learning her motivations.
Obviously, <<he didn't plan on getting decapitated, but could still sort of function, and seemed OK with Shaw's desire to take an Engineer ship to their homeworld>>
I am just pulling random thoughts here, and even I am puzzled as to why David would have that as his goal.
Still the design was amazing, and I hope that Idris Elba gets as much of a boost career wise as Noomi Rapace.

Is it just me or does Fassbender look like Ewan McGregor with that hair? Suddenly he's cuter.

That, and the wide eyed stare he was doing most of the time helped as well, and he didn't do that shark grin of his. I first saw Fassbender in "Inglourious Basterds" and was struck by his eyes, there is just something about them.

I'm not familiar with Fassbender (although I know that lots of Greecies perv on him), so this is the first time I've ever seen him act. He totally reminded me of Ewan McGregor...maybe his calm, innocent character in I Love You Philip Morris.

I ... did not enjoy this. I must've looked at my watch five times, which is always a bad sign.
