They left their mark on history--literally. Via their DNA. I do like Mellie a lot; that woman has balls of steel. Mellie's back story hasn't been fully explored, has it? It'd be interesting to hear more. The character has mentioned several times how resentful she is of giving up her law career and how constrained she is by the role of First Lady. But what was her motivation to pursue this path? She wants influence and to do meaningful work but thought doing so through her husband was a viable choice. She didn't even seem that motivated by having a family for personal reasons; in the first season, she yelled, "I had children for you!" angrily at Fitz and is having this third baby for political reasons. She makes an interesting contrast with Olivia, Verna, and VP Sally Langston, who have made careers for themselves overtly. Mellie and Olivia are within a similar age group and Verna and Sally are older (and the VP is married with at least one child), so to say that Mellie was constrained by societal forces or the old saw of women not being able to "have it all" doesn't entirely hold water within the universe of the show. The show is good at integrating flashback episodes with current stories. Perhaps this could be explored in a future episode.

I wish Fitz had stayed in a coma. I absolutely loved Sally Langston this episode. Kate Burton and Bellamy Young really shined. I was far more interested in the White House power struggles than anything Olivia and her fixer crew have done thus far this season. I don't think they can pull of having Fitz as a figurehead with the First Lady running the country but I would love every minute of it if they could.

I wish Fitz stayed in a coma as well. The guy is a drip. I liked the idea of the First Lady and the VP doing battle over the rest of the season. I am getting a little sick of Olivia's self-righteousness.

I'm so mixed on this (just started watching). Pope is still abrasive and expressionless except for occasional short breakdowns. And the Prez seems a lot more passionate for her than vice versa. I have a crush on Goldwyn, so I'm biased. I do love Pope's wardrobe though.
I still can't get all the names together. And what, Steven? He rounded out the posse! The incredibly fast-talking, instantly fixing, no questions asked posse.

This show just gets crazier every week! I just want to see how long Shonda can keep the balance on the high-wire tightrope going until it inevitably devolves into the political equivalents of ghost sex and deer rescues.

The not really the President killed a Supreme Court Justice (who tried to have him assassinated) before she could talk and tell the world the election was rigged. Are we supposed to like these people? The only person on this show who isn't a douche canoe is David.
David and Mellie are the only ones I like. I want to punch Olivia in the face. Typical of a Shonda show.

I think this episode was a little too over the top for me. I do not like these characters. And although I think Kerry is very pretty, the thing she does with her lip is driving me crazy!!! (it's like Keira and her jaw!) Ugh.

I used to like Fitz and Olivia but yah, now it's just David and Mellie. I find Huck incredibly annoying. The voice and manner of speaking brings out my slapping hand.
