Is a sequel necessary? Probably not. But who am I to stop another film about Male Strippers? If it must be, then it must be.

I wish they weren't making a sequel but dammit if I won't see it...

I finally saw this movie this past weekend on cable. (It was my boyfriend's idea.) I liked it and Channing Tatum more than I thought I would. (Channing Tatum's character seemed like he would be the obnoxious former frat boy/athlete type with no redeeming value.)
How is there going to be a sequel? The impression I got from the ending was that Magic Mike was going to leave that life behind and not go to Miami. In addition, I wouldn't be surprised if The Kid gets himself killed due to some sort of recklessness. I wouldn't be too surprised if things ultimately did not work out with Brooke. (For a day afterwards I couldn't even remember that character's name!)
ETA: I read on IMDB that they originally wanted Jessica Biel to play Brooke, but she didn't want the role. I would have rather see Channing Tatum and Jessica Biel play off each other.

Channing Tatum does absolutely nothing for me. He looks like too many guys that I grew up with in small town TN, which is why it is not surprising that he grew up not too far from me in Cullman, Alabama. I do think it is interesting that is his real name, I always thought it was a stage name.
He does seem like a nice, down-to-earth guy and I am looking forward to 22 Jump Street. But he's just not sexy to me. Neither is Alex Pettyfer, he seems like quite the douche.

I don't think Channing is that hot either, he's just not my type. But he does come across as a nice guy (just a bad actor). I liked him in Magic Mike and I think the Jump Street character plays to his strengths. I really want to see 22 Jump Street (my boyfriend would be dragging me to see it anyway even if I didn't want to).

I think it can work without him. He was great in Magic Mike, that's for sure, but I think the only actor they HAVE to retain for the sequel is Channing Tatum. It seemed like Matthew was having the time of his life playing Dallas, though, so I'm surprised he wouldn't want to come back for even a cameo. But it does make sense for him to not have a big role in this film, since Channing's character cut ties with Dallas at the end of the first one.

I'm not surprised, he's doing the Serious Actor thing now so I don't think Magic Mike 2 fits that plan.
