Usually I don't like how quickly the plot lines move on this show, however this time I'm glad about it because we did not have to endure Deacon's manpain for more than one episode. Glad to see Scarlett acting like less of a scared little waif too. I like how Rayna is just moving on and taking charge. Maybe the writers finally have a handle on her character.

I skipped a few episodes this season, then I tune in tonight and bwuh?
Rayna's daddy is dead and... he killed mom...? Scarlet is hooking up with the Dutch guy from Treme now? There's a woman at Deacon's house and in his bed, and I have no idea who she is. (Is she a new character?)
I obviously missed some Juliette blowup, but I can guess at it, and the Band of Scarlet's Exes still seems to be about where I saw them last.

Wow, you've missed a lot! Although I really liked this episode because we got new music from the cast for a change.
As regards to Deacon's new woman, she's really not new. She's been a recurring character since the beginning of the season. She represented him when he was accused of causing the car accident that he and Rayna were in (from the cliffhanger season finale of last season) and their relationship developed into something romantic and I don't know if they're destined to be long for this world, but they seem like a good match, IMO.
As for Scarlet, she drives me nuts. NUTS. NUTS. NUTS. Get over yourself, already. You don't have any claim on your ex's. I can't even believe I defend Jonathan Jackson's character, but he's improved greatly over the season and she's still a whiny, self-entitled bitch. What, Deacon didn't tell you about his Bluebird standing time slot? Well hell girl, YOU'RE NEVER HOME. When you are, most people aren't there. They just got done saying that they're like passing ships in the night, so how the hell is he supposed to fill you in on his life? Ugh. She just randomly hooked up with that guy in last night's episode...so I don't think much will happen with that.

I'm liking the show much more now. The Juliette/Avery relationship is great and I love how supportive they are of each other.
Gunnar/Zoe/Avery's dynamic is awesome and I am glad they are starting their band. But I do have to side with Scarlett being upset about Gunnar/Zoe. You do not go after your bffs ex, that is just such a no no. The rest of her sl just zzzzz.
I want more Rayna/Juliette! The Highway 65 sl should be about them teaming up!

The show is getting much better as it slowly unwinds the Rayna family stuff. Truly, if I was in charge of the show I'd ditch Rayna completely. Connie just isn't good in this role and the show is so much more interesting when focused on all the other characters. I'd love so see more about Juliette and the Scarlett exes group trying to succeed in Nashville.

She also has the weakest voice. Hayden's isn't amazing but it is decent and it makes sense for her character. Rayna is supposed to be the queen of country and yet every time she sings she sounds totally flat. I've been only watching Nashville intermittenly since last season. It was never the show I had hoped it would be. I wanted more music business stuff and less soap. But I had heard it got better so have been checking it out again. It is better but has still not lived up to its potential. The music is still the best part. I totally missed why Scarlett is a mess too. What caused this spiral?

Scarlett's spiral is based on the fact that she wants fame but doesn't want fame...but she does. Ugh. So, to keep up with her "inner demons" she can only keep up with the lifestyle if she is able to stay awake for long periods of time and has now developed a new addiction (like literally over the course of a week?) to these prescription pills that she got from her producer/Rayna's former flame for a one-time pick me up. Now she's just using them because she thinks it's what's helping her get the edge.
I think that combined with her hate for the success that her friends and exes are getting without enhancement drugs and the fact that she apparently has no other friends, family or other means of support that she hasn't totally cut off from or is just a real introvert. Hell, who knows? I just think she's better off being a songwriter.
And on that note, I think Rayna is better being a record producer or label owner. She's much better just focusing on her family and working behind the scenes. Plus, they should focus more on her eldest daughter having a career because she can sing better than all these actors combined.

Tandy's hair looks worse than ever. Her old corporate, mid-length look with the Ronald Reagan-coffee grounds shade was meh but adequate. Now it's like a brassy faux-Kate Gosselin. Rayna, refer her to your colorist! That's what sisters do!

I get that the writers are doing the slow burn towards an eventual Rayna and Juliette partnering (or at least getting Juliette on the label) but doesn't it make sense for the label-less Juliette to at least mention in passing Rayna's label, like "Yeah, she has a new label, but it'll be hard enough for her to get started without my baggage" or "I'm a big star I need a big label." Just, something. It's hard to believe that no one has thrown it out as an option in passing.

I watched the entire first season this week (erm yeah) and I'm not sure if I want to continue watching. Avery is the only character I like and am still interested in at this point but the rest has left me strangely cold. I do think that Hayden Panetierre is great in this, better than Connie Britten with her one facial expression. Oh and dear PTB, I have watched television before. If the season's last scene is an accident involving your two leads, I'm pretty damn sure that both of them will make it. That' so not a cliffhanger.
