I don't think Jeremy Irons is good casting either as Alfred, unless nu-Alfred has secretly teamed up with Luthor to murder Batman. HA! Batman would wake up strapped to a table with Alfred preparing to skin him alive. I can't ever remember JI ever playing someone with even a modicum of humanity. I, of course, could be wrong.

The only thing that comes to my mind is Irons in The Man in the Iron Mask, where he was a kind, older advisor to DiCaprio. He was very good in that role so I could actually see this working.
All I can imagine for Jesse Eisenberg is his obnoxious neighbor from Modern Family recently. Ick.

Lex Luther is supposed to be very charismatic and charming, qualities that I have yet to see JE exhibit in any film role. This has all of the signs of being an epic mess. It will be interesting to see how this turns out. And I agree that casting Jeremy Irons was a mistake; I believe he can pull it off. But the real problem is he is a wonderful actor and any scene between him and Ben Affleck will probably just serve to highlight how bad of an actor Ben is.

I'm actually intrigued by making Lex Luthor into Zuckerman. Superman is an enduring American icon, and it only stays that way because it adapts to changing cultural mores rather than relying on sentiment and nostalgia. Lex Luthor started out as a mad scientist bent on destroying the world, but as the world changed, he became an evil businessman. And now, and evil megalomaniacal villain is someone who's a genius with computers, who can spy on anyone and control the vast digital network that controls all aspects of our lives.

If Leonardo DiCaprio would ever deign to do a mere superhero movie, he would have made an excellent Lex Luthor.

Leanardo would act the sh*t out of that BUT as he has gotten older his face and head seem to have expanded. He would look very odd without hair.

I hope Irons' Alfred turns into Stan from the cartoon Frisky Dingo. Backstory: Boy billionaire Xander Crews is the superhero Awesome X, and Stan is supposed to be his Alfred. After Xander is kidnapped, Stan does the following: - immediately tries to declare Xander dead
- sells Crews Manor to a hooker who blackmailed Xander after she found out he was Awesome X
- took control of the Crews Corporation
- became Awesome X
- tried to fuck Xander's girlfriend
If anyone could pull off an Alfred that evil, it's Jeremy Irons. ETA: One thing that bothered me in Man of Steel is that they didn't show Superman using his X-ray vision or super hearing to look for survivors in the rubble in Smallville or Metropolis. Once tey hitting stopped, he ran to Lois. Weird.

Topic: this sequel-of-sorts sounds like a clusterfuck. Don't think I want to watch Jesse Eisenberg hunch his way through scenes playing a variation of Zuckerberg.

Agreed! I finally saw this last weekend and, during the scene where Jonathan talks to Clark about the bus accident, yelled "Are you f***ing kidding me?" and threw popcorn at the tv angrily. Luckily, the tv was far away so I didn't mess up the tv.
