Mrs. Stan figured it out an episode or two before the finale. She confronted him after her night out drinking with Elizabeth. She threw a glass at him and everything. I was kinda hoping she'd hit him with it, but he's got good reflexes. He tried to deny it but she wasn't having it. Told him she had called headquarters a few times looking for him only to be told he had left work hours ago.
I guess he thought as soon as he shipped off Nina to her new life with her new identity everything at home would be A-OK.
Mrs. Stan is seriously my favorite character. I want her to take the kids and run away to Hawaii.

Interestingly, I found myself rooting for Elizabeth to get caught. Now, of course, the show would end up devolving like Homeland did if that actually happened but I like that things have become so grey that you can both root for and against the anti-heroes. I'm very curious about how things will play out now that the FBI is looking for an illegal couple. Stan being distracted by Nina helps a little in terms of explaining away why his instincts wouldn't go into overdrive given his previous suspicions but I'd still expect him to go digging for information about Elizabeth and Philip's past. Even from afar and with a wig on, her size and build should be enough to reawaken his suspicions.

A lot of women have Elizabeth's size and build though. Stan felt pretty stupid after he went looking in their trunk and didn't find anything, and Elizabeth and Philip haven't really done anything to awaken Stan's suspicion since then. It's also much harder to see them as suspects because they've developed a friendship.

I wonder if they'll keep the handler around next season, I kinda like the tough old broad. I really like her, too. They'd better keep her, I think she adds a lot to the show. I love the scenes with the handler and Keri's character. Keri kicks so much ass in this role. I find the physicality of her character hard to believe because Keri is so petite I don't think she's strong enough to win many fights. But Keri does such an awesome job of acting that I find it easy to forget all that. This show is like the opposite of Alias in that way. I watched Alias for the action and the eye candy. I watch this show for the acting.

Wow. The premier episode of this season was very dark. I'm still processing, but what happened to that family was beyond disturbing.

I am so happy the show is back. It is so good and yes definitely getting darker. Its amazing, none of the characters are good guys but neither are they completely bad. I want happy endings for everyone even if they don't deserve it.
Margo Martindale (Claudia) is only going to be on one or two episodes unfortunately. She is stuck on that crappy show The Millers.
Paige eventually finding out her parents are Russian spies will still probably not be as traumatic as walking in on them 69'ing.

I'm really confused. Can someone explain 1) the 'mugger' and his significance and 2) WTH went wrong with the dead drop? If there's a site, feel free to point me to it. I am totally lost. Also, the 69'ing thing was very odd (as was the discussion that followed, IMO). Maybe b/c it was so antiseptic and cold.

I was kind of lost too - but the gist of the whole dead drop scene was that their friends (the other sleeper cell) needed help and Philip had to jump in at the last second. Then when Philip took the drop-off bottle of aspirin to their hotel room, he discovered the bodies of the couple and their daughter. Only the son remains alive; he passed Philip in the hallway before coming upon the bodies. We don't know who murdered them yet - presumably that will be a major storyline of the second season.
I thought the 69 scene was strange too. I was disappointed with the lack of emotional interaction between Philip and Elizabeth in the premiere.

Ah ok. I was thinking the other couple knew there was a risk beforehand & purposely tried to push it off on them. I may have to watch again for clarity. I knew it wasn't going to end well when the guy mentioned using his son.
