Was Gaad the computer guy? The scenes of Phillip saying he felt like shit all the time then later typing a suicide note while that guy swung by the neck were sad/gruesome.
It was also obvious how out of touch Elizabeth was when she thought she was being followed. Being completely evasive and not particularly comforting to your 14 yo who thinks faceless people may be out to harm her? Yup, she'll definitely trust you now.

He worked for the FBI's IT department and told Martha that he was grilled for several hours during the investigation into who put the bug in Gaad's office. Philip killed Gene and then planted a receiver in his dresser to make it look like Gene was guilty.

Right, ok. I figured he showed up in the "previously"s for a reason. That sucks.

The "suicide note" was particularly sad. "I'm sorry, I had no choice" could be as much Philip apologizing to his victim as it could be Gene's supposed last words.

Absolutely. Philip seems to be getting supremely fed up with his situation. The man is in a fake marriage, for God's sake.
I liked the bit about Operation Zephyr. It emphasized just how much was considered important, resources spent, only to come to nothing (or so I think right now). And how both sides really did the absolute most during the Cold War. NYT or a similar paper had a retrospective with a bunch of old spy stuff & it was really pretty amazing. While growing up I definitely felt a vague sense of fear & the unknown (kinda like global warming?). Sting was singing about Russia & the news would drop a line about WWIII every now and then... But until I was in college I had no idea how far it all went (it certainly wasn't something that came up in my 12 years of Catholic school education).

Oh, wow, what a great season finale. I loved the last scene: the voiceover of Reagan's speech juxtaposed over Stan and Henry, happy and oblivious to the turmoil next door, to Paige, devastated and alone, to Elizabeth and Philip--Elizabeth, in clear view in the foreground, more resolute to the cause and Russia then ever, and Philip, blurry in the background, coming to terms with just how many doubts he has about the life he's chosen (or that was chosen for him).
Some of the 'spy stuff' got a little dense for me this season, but the characters make this show. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Stan has got to be the worst FBI agent of all time. But I did appreciate how he was 'redeemed' by the Reagan loving goverment hacks. Philip and Elizabeth are such sad characters, and it's been so entertaining (if you will) to watch them deal with their current circumstances in such diverse ways. Philip is actually in two fake marriages, through he has complex feelings for Elizabeth. And Elizabeth is like those right wing nut jobs who just doubles down when things start falling down around her.
I do wonder what Paige is going to do now that she's told her secret. Does she ultimately go to Stan? Do her parents off her once they find out her betrayal? Does it push Philip to come clean? Does Henry remain oblivious?
Does Martha make it past 4 episodes? So many questions.
Keri and Matthew are great in these roles, and the only thing that keeps me coming back.

Thank you for explaining who it was that committed "suicide" and what Phillip planted in the drawer. I did not remember his face and was wondering why Philip was killing some random guy.
I have loved Nina's storyline in the past, but as others have said it seems superfluous right now. Has she found true love with this guy? How will her story reconnect with the main characters?
A couple of alternate theories for the SpyFamily: maybe Pastor Tim will not believe Paige, and promptly tell her parents she has severe psychological problems because she told him that they were spies. Paige would then be totally boxed in by her parents and their lies. Elizabeth would rub her hands together in glee!
And perhaps Phillip goes on the run with Martha as part of his cover with her...and likes it! He then ditches Elizabeth and he and Martha become freelance agents, selling their services to the highest bidder. I would watch that.
Years later Henry writes a book about his parents the spies and his sister the religious fanatic, with a special forward by his kindly neighbor the FBI agent. He and Mrs. Stan share one special night together after the book is published.

I think my most shocking moment of the season was when that guy Elizabeth had to sleep with said he wanted her wet. It was so gross and intimate and damn, can't she be allowed to try to fake THAT? Jesus, talk about commitment to the cause...

The sex stuff is a running theme. Philip and Elizabeth do not have autonomy over their bodies. If a mission requires sex, they must do it. They even showed us how Philip was trained to be desensitized to sex and how the possibility of having sex with Kimmy upset him.
