Considering the general perception of Julian Assange at this point is "that creepy rapist hiding out in an embassy" I'm wondering who actually thought this film was a good idea.

I love, love, love Benedict, so I spent the money to see TFE.
It just wasn't a very good movie. The script and direction both barely rose to the level of mediocre. And while Ben's performance was outstanding, there just wasn't enough structure to support it. One reviewer commented that they wanted to see the movie BC thought he was making, and that is exactly how I felt.
Plus, it's really challenging to make two fairly unlikable people typing on laptops interesting.
But I don't see this putting a big dent in BC's career overall. He's said many times that he always saw himself as a character actor, and I agree with the Gary Oldman comparison... well known, well respected, but at the end of the day still thoroughly a character actor rather than a movie star.

IMHO that's where The Social Network succeeded. I can't stand Mark Zuckerberg and I also don't think the movie was the best ever, but Fincher and Sorkin really managed to make that whole "Which douchebag invented Facebook?" affair fairly interesting. Seems like TFE wanted to achieve something similar but failed. Shame for BC but as you said, this probably won't affect his career too much.

Pinches Martin's bum and then gives him the finger. Heh. I'm not sure how I feel about the smoking jacket, but I agree with Tom and Lorenzo that this is the perfect "boyfriend" look. He's been wearing the same clothes he's had since he was a teenager/college age for years. I think he finally went and got himself a stylist.

I rewatched the last Sherlock and still have no clue as to how he pulled it off. And I'd forgotten how freakish Moriarty was. The American version is so different (but equally good, IMO). I look forward to all the Brit Christmas specials coming up.

I have a pretty good idea how he pulled it off*, but why he stayed dead for three years? And how John will take his reappearance? That's what I'm really curious about. And I sorta suspect the how of it all will probably be as quickly resolved as the Great Game cliffhanger was when Scandal aired.
* Sherlock lands on the garbage truck that's pulling away right when he lands, Molly plants a decoy cadaver, buses blocked his fall from John's sightline, the kid on the bike knocked John to disorient him enough that he didn't get to examine the body before it was quickly removed (all my own speculation, I don't know any spoilers)
