This only came to me because someone on here mentioned it recently, but Robert Pattinson's comment about method acting applies here.

No one cares about him smoking or sparing Kirsten Dunst from interacting with him. She’s a better actor than him anyway, doubt she missed talking to him.

I suspect this is all because BC really wants an Oscar. I hope someone talks some sense into him soon.

I mentioned in Kristen Stewart’s thread a few weeks ago that with both her and Benedict Cumberbatch being apparent Oscar front runners this year, the Oscar interview circuit was sure to be insufferable, and neither one is letting me down. Pajiba has a fun go of recapping Benedict saying that, among other things, he didn’t bathe while shooting “The Power of the Dog” and didn’t speak to Kirsten Dunst on set because their characters hate each other. Sounds like a real peach of a costar. He also said he felt that he needed to smoke real cigarettes in the film instead of the fakes, and he correspondingly got nicotine poisoning. Completely off-topic but thank you peace47 for pointing me to that article as it had me scroll some more around Pajiba and that resulted in me watching "How to with John Wilson" and wow what a great little series!

I suspect this is all because BC really wants an Oscar. I hope someone talks some sense into him soon. His desperation for both an Oscar and A-list movie stardom rolls off of him in waves, and I do find that tedious when he turns up in interviews. Years ago, I was a huge fan of the first two seasons of “Sherlock” and really liked his performance there, so I don’t hate his acting or anything (although anything he has done since hasn’t really interested me). And I give him credit for keeping his personal life quiet considering some of the unhinged fans he has. The last posts in this thread before I revived it to note his Method approach to “The Power of the Dog” were discussing how the rumors about him having a third kid must have been false (or had a tragic turn) since he has never publicly acknowledged it, but I think I did read that they actually did have that third kid, but he just doesn’t talk about any of the kids, ever. On the subject of him not talking to Kirsten Dunst on set, I don’t really understand that from a performance perspective: it seems like if you are trying to portray a performance of deep antipathy, you would want to have a strong working relationship with your costar with good communication so that you can discuss where you are going in the dark corners of the performance. But I don’t know anything about acting. I will note that a corollary of Pattinson’s observation is that you rarely hear about women using Method techniques to portray jerks because I think then the story is just that they’re difficult performers.

My only contribution is that I've seen Frankenstein 4 times. And while I don't think BC is a bad actor, Jonny Lee Miller was brilliant in both roles. And BC not so much as the monster.

I get a kick out of the fact that 20+ years ago, actors had to deny they were gay notthatthereisanythingwrongwiththat and the likes of Kevin Spacey felt the need to parade around the world's least convincing beard in order to secure an Oscar.
And now Benedict Cumberbatch, who is married to a woman and has three children, has joined a substantial list of actors trying to convince us that they ARE gay/queer and how dare you assume otherwise.

This only came to me because someone on here mentioned it recently, but Robert Pattinson's comment about method acting applies here. Suddenly I like Robert Pattinson a lot more. And, yes, you rarely hear about women “method acting” - because when women are “difficult” they stop getting work, but when male actors are “difficult” they are artistes who are serious about their craft. Sit down, Benedict. I hope Kirsten Dunst just rolled her eyes and made the jerk-off motion at Benedict whenever he looked away.

At the table reading of “The Devil Wears Prada” Meryl Streep told Anne Hathaway that was the last time she was going to be nice to her until filming was done.

Do you think Meryl was really doing Method or just had had enough of Anne?
