Mugsy, yes, I have read a little about Ragnar's life, so the snakes the Seer had got me a little nervous this week! But like you said they are jumping around a bit so who knows what elements they will choose to be faithful to. I am fine with that, I am looking at this as an "inspired by" story rather than expecting complete accuracy. I would miss Fimmel though! Rollo does not do it for me, although I do think this second English king lounging in the Roman baths is fun to watch. I keep expecting Jack McCoy to pop in to the pool too.

Someone on another forum said the king spends so much time in the bath they're going to name their rubber duck Ecbert. Heh.

Ok, so last kid with Aslaug? Can she go now?
Eta: I don't hate Aslaug because I like Lagertha. I just think she has nothing to do. I'm bored with her. And I know Ragnar had one more wife and I'm curios if the show will go there and when.

Oh, I don't mind her. She didn't sign up to live in a tiny cold hovel because some asshole raided their village while hubby was away (raiding someone else's village). And she did say she liked Lagertha.
I wondered how they were going to do the boneless part of Ivar the Boneless, so this makes sense. Even though I knew Ivar survived - he becomes a legendary Viking warrior in spite of his handicap, apparently carried into/from battle on his shield - I was still nervous when Ragnar held that axe at that poor baby's throat. (And I wondered how that baby's real life mother could watch as they filmed that scene.)

Not liking the Floki conflict I see why it has to be, in order for the character to be developed but I loved the whole sweet gang and hate seeing this division

Floki is such an odd duck that his motivations are unpredictable.
This show gets better with each episode, I'm sorry that next week is the season finale already. Loved Ragnar's little whisper to King Aella ( after he was reassured the Northmen wouldn't hurt him when he was their hostage), "Unless we have to."

Finally caught up with the latest episodes. This show is so badass I can't stand it - broody, vicious, funny, sexy...just fascinating stuff. Fimmel has to go eventually, but I assume we will have at least another half or whole season with him, at least I hope so. I find him absolutely magnetic, and while I want to see the rest of the Vikings story, I will miss him once he's gone. Hope he's nominated for an Emmy this year.

Well well well Floki tricked us all now, didn't he? Siggy too. Well played! I thought Floki was going to kill Aslaug, and I was totally fine with that, lol. So glad the Floki and Ragnar bromance is still alive and well...I will call them Floknar since it looks like they are in it for the long haul. I appreciate how this show does not gloss over the fact that the Vikings were just as vicious with each other as they were on their raids. These guys sure spent a lot of time killing each other. Maybe they will go to Ireland next? No idea when they first hit that area, I will have to google. Or is this the group that stayed in England and established the Danelaw settlement? But maybe that came later. I can't believe it is over until 2015! Major bummer. This show really came into its own this season.

The show has great characters and battles, but the atmosphere is what I like most about it. Scenes like the sacrifice, the blood eagle, the ships leaving Kattegat, and now all the characters judging Horik silently and then leaving Ragnar to kill him are shot so beautifully and really create this sense of a different culture. Of course it helps that it's based on real history (unlike a show such as Game of Thrones, which has interesting, creative costumes and sets but is still always modern people doing fantasy stuff), but I think Vikings is even better than HBO's Rome at portraying a lost way of life. Maybe they will go to Ireland next? No idea when they first hit that area, I will have to google. Or is this the group that stayed in England and established the Danelaw settlement? But maybe that came later. There's an interview that says next season will feature the return of Ecbert and Kwenthrith and the viking attack on Paris.

Historically, it was Rollo who led the attack on Paris. The interview says next season will jump ahead another year, so Rollo could be healed enough to do that. I also read that they had three ships,in season one (partly due to the plot, partly due to budget), 12 ships in season two, and will have 100 ships in season three. Attacking Paris requires a large fleet.
I'm looking forward to seeing that, having been to Paris; I enjoy seeing places that I've visited, especially in a historical context. I also saw the Viking influence on Dublin last year, which was fascinating.
A couple interesting things about this episode: - the History Channel cuts several minutes for commercials, and Americans missed out on a threesome with Ragnar, Lagertha and Aslaug. - you probably didn't notice, but Ragnar had no dialogue except for reciting The Lord's Prayer; that was by request from Fimmel.
