- the History Channel cuts several minutes for commercials, and Americans missed out on a threesome with Ragnar, Lagertha and Aslaug. Say what now?? Where exactly can I find this other version. For research purposes, of course. You know,I was going to comment on how I thought Lagertha and Aslaug were so much more mellow toward each other in this episode, but deleted it because I think my Aslaug hate is over the top and nobody else would care. Ha! Mellow indeed. And what kind of NITWITS at the History Channel thought that would be the scene to cut? That is some grade A stupidity right there lol. And totally American, I suppose...show all the gore and violence, but clutch the pearls when it comes to sex. Showing the threesome would really help develop character and cultural context. I'm just saying. I did not notice Ragnar did not speak, except for the prayer. Shows how intense he is onscreen, I think, that he has such a presence even when not saying a word.

I didn't notice that Ragnar had very little lines either! Everyone on this show has amazing presence. I love that Lagertha and Aslaug aren't portrayed as rivals but as friends and even get it on!

I watch this on Amazon. Am I really not seeing each show in it's entirety or is this some fan wank?
ETA: I'm actually really pissed. Not specifically about missing that scene. But that I pay Amazon to deliver a TV show to me and now I find out, I'm not getting that entire show? WTF, Amazon?

No, it happened. They don't show the actual threesome, but there's a morning-after scene with Ragnar, Aslaug and Lagertha in bed together - and Ragnar has a big ol' grin. There's another scene from the previous ep where Lagertha tells Ragnar that the gods have said that Bjorn will survive the battle, and Ragnar says something like, "Who knows what will happen?" then he adds, "Do you want to have sex?" Lagertha just grins and walks away. You can see the clips in the Vikings thread at TWOP.
There's the American version of Vikings and the European version, which is uncut.

Season 3 premiere was last night.
Lagertha is the bomb.
I enjoy the way the show is fictional, but also historically true, to some degree. I mean, Ivor the Boneless was an actual great Viking leader (hard to imagine at this point), as were Ragnar, Lagertha and Bjorn. It's interesting to see how the show takes the facts from history and blends them into the story.
I also wonder, if the show's ratings continue to increase, if they will kill off Ragnar and advance the story 20 years to highlight his sons' feats. It would be interesting storytelling, but Travis Fimmel is so damned charismatic, that killing him would be a huge loss for the show.
Maybe a spinoff show, highlighting the sons?

Watched the season premier and liked it a lot. Lagertha is awesome. They will have to kill off Ragnar at some point, but maybe next season? He has to have several grown sons to take over but if I recall correctly, it's the princess' and Aslug's sons so they have a ways to go until then. I'm thinking they might go the way of the Starz gladiator stories, so that the stories weave together without the same actors. Losing Travis Fimmel will be difficult; he really is magnetic.

Wow, killing off Siggy and Athelstan within weeks? Love the unpredictability and staying unspoiled.
I know Jessalyn Gilsig wanted off the show because it was too much to be in Ireland away from her children for so long, so the showrunners gave her a great sendoff. But Athelstan's death was a surprise. Now Ragnar can't trust anyone.
Love that the actors who play(ed) Siggy, Lagertha, Bjorn and Horik are all Canadian - yay Canada!

So I guess I'm the only one who watches this show? That attempted siege of Paris was epic. I thought Floki was a goner, as did he, I think. Although we know what happens historically, it is pretty ballsy for the Vikings to think they could take an entire walled city of thousands with what seemed like maybe 500 Norse. And just running up to a wall of armed and arrow-wielding soldiers, while some of the Vikings were bare-chested, seemed pretty foolhardy. I wonder what their casualty rate was.
Ha to Lagertha telling Kalf that she'll take him on as a sex partner, but with the understanding that she will kill him at some future point. And his response is to start undressing.

I am definitely watching and really enjoying it. Vikings, Orphan Black and The Americans are some of the best things on tv right now, IMHO.
Sad to see Siggy go :-( And crushed about no more Athelston. His character and storyline were awesome.
I loved what Ragnar said, about the "anger of a patient man". Scary!
So, still tuning in just very busy and not a lot of time to post and discuss.
