Jamie is hot yes, the sex is hot, yes but I still wouldn't want to live in that time.

Are the books worth reading? I may have to ask for them for Christmas. Well, I take that back. I would ask for the first one. I read a synopsis of each one online and with each book I could feel my eyebrows getting higher on my face like "Seriously?". I don't like a lot of blood/realistic injuries and therefore tend to pass by most shows not edited for cable. I'm a sensitive snowflake! But I am intrigued by this show and the hot ginger and now the sex! So I would like to watch. Too much for a gore-a-phobe like myself? In my perfect viewing world, the violence is implied not shown. I can figure out what happens when someone is shot/stabbed/mortally wounded without seeing it, thanks.

Randall's whipping of Jamie in the previous episode was pretty horrifying and bloody. Other than that the show hasn't been very gory. But I haven't read the books, so I can't speak as to how much gore may be coming up.

The book is told from Claire's POV, she's a nurse and not at all squeamish about blood, guts, broken bones, etc. I tend to skip over those passages. Diana Gabaldon likes writing medical stuff almost as much as she likes writing love scenes.
I love the books, but they have their eye rolling moments. My favorite is Voyager. The series is fun, mostly light reading with some great adventures. I love show Claire and show Jamie but they are even better in the book.

Points for realism with Jamie lasting about 45 seconds the first time and squishing Claire in the process. But he rallied for the follow-up performances. And what the hell, Dougal? Just be smart, dude. This will only be trouble. I know some were upset it wasn't all hot the first go round but yeah good for the show for being realistic here. Though I call bullshit on Jamie not realizing people have sex face to face. I'm really supposed to believe the man never came across a couple screwing? Never heard a bawdy joke that made it clear people the couple were facing each other? Really? Him being a virgin is more realistic! I was really surprised by how funny this ep was! Everything involving the wedding planning had me in hysterics! This episode was basically a raunchy romantic comedy! I know everyone was fanning themselves during that second sex scene (and for good reason cuz HAWT) but I actually liked the last one best. Definitely showing an emotional connection is forming and Claire wrapping Jamie's shoulders was a nice call back to the pilot. The actors did a great job selling Claire and Jamie. Jamie has got it bad and Claire is finally starting to notice.

I'm really supposed to believe the man never came across a couple screwing? Never heard a bawdy joke that made it clear people the couple were facing each other? Really? Him being a virgin is more realistic! I think in the book that Jamie says that Spoiler he encountered a rape in the woods once when he was younger, and the man took the woman from the back. Also during the pillow talk, he lists all the animals that he's seen mating, and she's privately amused by the idea of boys learning about sex by watching forest animals rather than sneaking girlie mags or comparing stories in the locker room . For someone who hasn't read the series before, I wouldn't get all the books at once, maybe the first couple as ebooks or from the library and then one or two at a time from there. The series has a passionate following, but it's really not for everyone. Over time, the focus of it shifts in a way that not everyone likes. Gabaldon has an end point in mind to some extent, but she's kind of loose about getting there and you can tell she probably didn't plot this whole thing out ahead of time.

If a song has been written about people touching the stone and people time travelling then surely there must be many people in that area that are in the same position as Claire?

I'm finally caught up on all of the episodes. That episode with Black Jack kicking Claire was absolutely startling. The actors on this show are really doing a great job, and it has made the material really enjoyable.
I was actually looking away from the sex scenes at certain points because I felt like I was intruding. Heh. A couple things I loved: when Jamie was touching Claire's bare shoulder while talking about her lovely hair and Claire's smile at the sight of a very satisfied, sleeping Jamie after the blow job.
