Ugh. Starz just announced that Part 2 of season 1 won't start until APRIL 4, 2015!!! I hate mid season breaks! NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! THAT'S TOO LONG! UGH! Based on cast and crew's twitter accounts it sounds like the S1 wrapped filming just this past week. Supposedly, they aren't getting much of a break. Two weeks and the back to work for S2!

These last few episodes sure did get kinda rape-y. I understand that was a real and constant threat for women back then, but ease up, Outlander.
At least Claire had the appropriate reaction, which was "Fuck this 18th century shit." Even though things were going well with Jamie, I certainly understand the desire to head back to a time where she can get through a week without several attempted and/or actual rapes.
I'm sure the cliffhanger will be resolved with Claire hopefully escaping, but also her begging Jamie not to kill Black Jack (because no Black Jack = no Frank) much to Jamie's confusion.

Show, please stop trying to make Frank&Claire happen. That ship has sailed. We were shortchanged a lot of Jamie-Claire honeymoon bonding in favor of poor, miserable Frank.
Re: the rape attempts. These were actually handled better on the show than the book. The sequences were frightening and you felt the stakes were real. I felt these were handled too casually in the books. They condensed the timeline a lot so it looks like they both happened in one day.
Can't believe we have to wait till April.

On the one hand, I do appreciate they are fleshing out Frank. He was an important part of Claire's life and that shouldn't be swept under the rug. But, on the other hand, it felt like Frank was trumping Claire and Jamie who are you know the main characters. Tobias Menzies is amazing though.
I appreciated Starz had a rape warning at the beginning of the ep. I can't remember any show doing that. If nothing else it's a sign Starz and the show are aware these scenes are disturbing some people may want to tune out as a result.
Jamie and Claire were adorable in their scenes. Claire may not want to face it but she is falling for Jamie. She was enjoying the affection and at times even initiated it.
I also liked Claire self-defense lesson. It was a good way of showing Claire has been accepted as a member of the clan. Not to mention it came in handy later.
Also, was it just me or was Dougal at least 50% less dickish in this ep? He gave Jamie that little slap shoulder hug after the battle and seemed sincerely pleased with him! He came across genuinely concerned about Jamie's safety when it came to meeting Horrocks! He even seemed amused during Claire's dagger lesson!

I finally broke down and binge watched, and I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. I had it in my head that the books were romances, and I'm not a huge fan of the genre, so I wrote it off.
Anyway, is the show faithful to the books? I ask because I remember Diana Gabaldon's melodramatic snits just regarding fanfiction. I can only imagine the epic meltdown that would occur if they made too many changes to a sanctioned work that people are being paid to produce.

I can only imagine the epic meltdown that would occur if they made too many changes to a sanctioned work that people are being paid to produce. Diana Gabaldon's working closely with Ron Moore and is pretty mellow about all the changes. She doesn't seem to be all EL James or living on the set or anything. Just last week she had to tell fans to calm down because the wedding ring differed from the book's version. The series has been fairly faithful to the text, but there have been some changes, some events condensed and some invented, but mostly in the spirit of the novel. Frank has been more of a presence onscreen than he was on the page.

The actor who plays Jack Randall is amazing, makes me love him and hate him at the same time.
