The actor who plays Jack Randall is amazing, makes me love him and hate him at the same time. Agreed! He is actually my favorite character to watch on the show... and I'm a teensy bit attracted to him. Yes, I know that's totally effed up. But I like the actor better as Black Jack than as Frank. He plays both roles perfectly, and they're so different! Half the time I forget it's even the same actor.

He is a horrible sadist but I sort of find him hot.

It's really a genre-defying show/book. I was trying to describe it to a friend and the best I could come up with was "Masterpiece Theater meets a Feminist Game of Thrones" or maybe Masterpiece Theater meets feminist Last of the Mohicans in Scotland.
I so love Claire's clothes. I want all the plaid nubby knits she wears.

Have you read the "Into the Wilderness" series by Sarah Donati? It kind of reminded me of Outlander. There's no time travel. However, the book picks up after "The Last of the Mohicans" movie. It's a very good series and even has a cameo appearance by Claire and Jamie in one of the books (the author got permission from Diana Gabaldon to have them appear briefly in the book).

I'm such a wimp, I could never have survived the 18th century. Good thing that Claire is pretty, the only reason she is still alive with some of her liberal views.

Full disclosure, I don't watch the show but I love the books. I've wondered how they would handle a certain event which sounds like it happens tonight. Reading that part in the book made my sister put them away forever. Has anyone's opinion of Jamie changed?

Yes, that particular scene did happen in tonight's episode. It was handled rather well. I really liked their argument scene right after the rescue. Catriona did a great in-your-face "fuck you" attitude and that scene just really popped. And there was some awesome make-up sex at the end of the episode.

I haven't read the book but had heard of that particular scene in the book and was afraid they'd handle it all GoT-style. Luckily, they didn't, thanks to their brillant choice of giving Jamie the voiceover for the episode and having Claire fight back the way she did.

For the most part I think the show did a pretty good job in handling the spanking scene. I didn't like the light hearted music playing since it felt like they were playing it for laughs though. I did like how the show in way connected clan politics to the Jamie/Claire strife. Pretty good way to show that just because custom demands something doesn't mean it's a good idea in the long run. Jamie seems to get that now and it was a good lesson for him to learn. And yes the make up sex was hot! I almost felt too young to be watching!
Ok, Laoghire I get having the object of you obsession affection reject you is rough especially after you've thrown yourself at him. But get a grip girl! Leaving ill omens! Telling Claire Jamie is yours! She's going to be boiling bunnies soon! My mom was surprised Jamie immediately realized Laoghire was responsible for the bad omen. Apparently, in the books it was years before he found out she was responsible for that (and in theory the consequences).
