What does it say about the storyline of this show when the last two years my favourite characters have been a dog and a cat?

They wasted so much storytelling time with the silent movie replay of Roger’s hanging over and over again. And no matter how low things were, Ian would not return to his only family in the colonies just to do away with himself. That was so out of character.

I just started the latest episode, after being behind for weeks. But good for the show for actually going there with Roger. I wasn't sure they would. I'll add more later! I can't comment on Murtagh at all. I'm still crying. ETA: I can't hold this back after 10 minutes into the latest episode. Sam Heughan has become SUCH an amazing actor. I hope he gets recognition beyond a crappy action hero movie soon. I honestly wouldn't mind seeing him as the next Bond. Also, Brianna's voice is better than Roger's. Yeah I said it. They wasted so much storytelling time with the silent movie replay of Roger’s hanging over and over again. And no matter how low things were, Ian would not return to his only family in the colonies just to do away with himself. That was so out of character. I thought that was actually kind of a neat thing to do, but yeah it was there a lot. As for Ian, eeeehhhhhhhhhhh, he is very different when he first comes back, so that is in line. It's much easier to give insight into someone's mind in writing than it is on a TV show with no inner monologues.

I have The Spy Who Dumped Me in my collection solely because of Sam and Kate Mckinnon.

I have The Spy Who Dumped Me in my collection solely because of Sam and Kate Mckinnon. That is an underrated movie. I think it's still on Amazon Prime if anyone's looking for some mindless entertainment.

It is free to watch? Also, yes, completely underrated. Say it with a bunch of girlfriends it was the perfect movie to watch on a rainy Saturday afternoon. I miss going to the movies. DAMN Covid!

Good to know! I will watch it.
As for Outlander, I watched a couple of episodes of the first season on bootleg streaming when it was new but gave up because the streaming quality was terrible. Now it’s on Netflix, so I was thinking of giving it a go again. What season does it start getting not so good? I am still traumatized by sticking it out with Game of Thrones til the end and want to get out before things go downhill.

I had to mute the scenes where Roger was reliving the trauma of being hanged. It's just too upsetting. It reminded me a lot of S1 when Jamie had his own trauma with Black Jack Randall. Just OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN. It's super upsetting and I just can't stomach it. When Claire mentioned to Jamie the similarities (as I stated above) with what he and Roger went through I realized that was clearly what the writers were going for. I will say that I really felt for Roger during this episode. That would be incredibly hard and overwhelming and then trying to talk again and unable to sing to your child. I agree that they should just send the Mackenzies home to the 1970s. This shit is just destroying them inside and out. Clearly, they would need to wait to confirm that Jemmy can actually go through the stones, so I guess we're waiting until he can speak. Time is moving quickly already and yet, Adso doesn't look like he's many months older. I will say that I'm following him on his official Instagram page and it's making me want to adopt the same breed down the road. prisma - I personally felt that Season 3 was when it was really rough. You're dealing with exclusively two separate times and not enough Jamie & Claire together. It gets somewhat better later in the season, but I think with watching it without having to wait for new episodes that can be a lot easier to deal with. It was like watching paint dry when it was in real time.

I am still traumatized by sticking it out with Game of Thrones til the end and want to get out before things go downhill. I would agree with others that you are probably okay through season three. Season three has some rough spots, mostly because the leads spend a large chunk of it apart, but I think important stuff still happens during the separation (and we meet Lord John, who is one of my favorite characters who currently is given absolutely nothing to do). But then they are reunited and things pick up again, though they go down some super-crazy paths and it is still a smidge rocky, but also kinda crazy in a fun way (I mean, voodoo and witchcraft and fortune tellers, and magic caves...yeah). Season four has a few good episodes, but honestly, once Roger and Brianna become major characters (I didn't mind them in season three), it really goes downhill for me. I'm hanging on because I keep waiting for it to get better, but...it's not happening. Just, nothing interesting is happening. They keep trying to make me care about Brianna and Roger and I just don't and Roger at least is so clearly miserable and it's not fun watching him hang out in the place/time that just makes an already not exciting character miserable. And I just realized that another reason why season four going forward has been kind of a dud is that this show was, at one point, excellent costume porn. Claire starts out in the 1940s, so you get those great fashions. Then 1960s Claire is also super-foxy. When she goes to 18th century Scotland, it is a symphony of excellent knits. Then they go to France and it is a fashion explosion. But since they've come to America, it's been the same boring frontier-settler clothes. I know the previous costume designer left the show, but it's like they were just like, "Meh. Screw it" ever since. Like, let Claire go into town every now and again and let her wear an awesome dress!
