I wonder whether Mayim is planning to homeschool her children. Why can't parents who don't want to submit their kids for vaccinations* choose to homeschool their kids? I know three families who homeschool. They are all insanely pro-vac. Like furious about non-vaccers, and would probably smack Mayim Bialik if given the opportunity.

The California law only requires that the physician sign stating that they explained to the parents the values and risks of getting vaccines. It's really nothing more than that and doesn't require you to really find a like-minded physician.
I, too was totally (and still am) against getting the H1N1 vaccine. I have my reasons, but it's not like this is a requirement overall. In fact, none of the vaccines are a requirement. It's really up to the schools and whatnot that you have your child in that can have requirements.
The HiB shot is very important in our house. I almost died in the early 80s from a condition/illness that is commonly found in young children, but yet, there was no vaccine for it. Eventually, one was made (HiB) and now it's on the schedule. That being said, I do have a child that is sensitive to vaccines and has had reactions to them. Therefore, we've had to use an alternative schedule to space them out to insure which ones are causing the actual reaction. Sometimes she's fine, other times she's no bueno.
I was insistent on MMR (even though it's a combo shot, it's the only form it comes in) and the HiB, natch. She's not in preschool or daycare, but overall...those are the important ones. She'll be homeschooled when the time comes, but again I'm not anti-vax, I just think it's important to know all the facts, know your child and be smart. She's getting all the vaccines I got and the HiB. I'm not a big fan about the Hep A or B shots, but that's a personal choice.
That all being said, Mayim is far more educated than myself and I would expect her to be a lot more wise in what she says to the masses about her take on the world and its "problems".

But even homeschooled children are exposed to other people, so I'd rather not give them a pass for that.

I was envisioning someone homeschooling their kids who happened to live in a remote environment, well-removed from many people. Silly me.

I have no beef with homeschoolers and unschoolers (beyond the usual disdain for the sanctimonious types, who are definitely not limited to homeschooling), but FWIW, many of the ones I know are out in public constantly. I really don't have any problem with this, and think it's rather interesting, but I do find myself wondering about vaccines during these encounters.
I wish I had more to say about Mayim, but right now it seems to me she's kind of reduced to being this year's parenting blogger and creator of mini outrages.

Yeah, in my city there are all sorts of "home-school fun days" at places like the library, the zoo, the museum. So, those non-vaccinated kids could easily pick stuff up at things like that. Or anywhere. Unless they never go to a mall, an airport, a grocery store, etc etc.

Yeah, unless you're out in the bush in Alaska, your kids are going to be around other people.

Yeah, unless you're out in the bush in Alaska, your kids are going to be around other people. But then you have the Palins to contend with.

Unless they never go to a mall, an airport, a grocery store, etc etc. And some diseases, such as measles, are so contagious that someone could contract it from someone with the disease who had walked through the same space HOURS before and is now long gone. It's that virulent. If the anti-vaxxers don't want to be responsible citizens, that's fine, just ship them to their own quarantined island so they can't make young infants, the very old, and the immunocompromised sick. Those diseased urchins and their snotty parents can spend their time making each other sick.
