I remember when she was on “What Not to Wear” several years back and had so many restrictions on what was and was not acceptable that it was basically impossible to really give her any sort of makeover. Maybe she was trying to make a point that everyone deserves flattering options, whether they like to show a little skin or dress more conservatively, but she was so impossible to please that I ended up wondering why she was even bothering. She didn’t seem to care about fashion and was happy enough with the status quo of how she dressed, and at the end I thought it was just kind of a waste of everyone’s time, other than it kept her name in the spotlight at a time when she wasn’t really working on a lot of projects.

Didn't she do a podcast recently where she talked about having an ongoing eating disorder? Just based on the article I read, it sounded like it's something she is still struggling with. Not surprising she likes to hide/camouflage herself. Either with unflattering clothing, or messy hairdos, lol.

Even though she apologized, I think Mayim still thought she was right about the whole Harvey Weinstein thing. Hard agree. That was a forced and tortured apology if there ever was one. The thing is for me, though, I’m obsessed with her on-screen. I blame being the exact right demographic for Blossom, or something, but I will watch anything she does. Big Bang Theory? Nerd minstrelsy, no thank you. But then she shows up and I can’t get enough. I even season-passed her entire new series (I LOVED “Miranda” too so) and found it delightful. As a feminist, I’ll never forgive that reductive, misguided, insulting op ed. But I wish I could quit her.

I feel like she has low self esteem about her looks, and that's part of it. I remember that op-ed piece and it struck me as really weird that she started off with the (paraphrased) statement along the lines of, "obviously I'm not considered an attractive woman, but...." which I don't think is true at all (she may not be conventionally beautiful or pretty, but she is an attractive enough woman when she is well groomed and put together), but obviously that's the way she sees herself. Which I'm sure has contributed to her warped view on certain things. Totally agree. Those comments she made were boneheaded, but seemed to stem from a very deep place of insecurity. Like she's had to spend her life building up her "other" qualities because she isn't the hot chick and growing up in Hollywood, where there's an overabundance of beautiful people and an overemphasis on looks, that's going to loom large. And that it's led her to try to find the advantages and somehow she wound up at "well, at least the Harvey Weinsteins of the world aren't attacking me." It was dumb and offensive to all the victims of those predators, but I could follow the twisted path she took to get there. We all know that rape and predation have nothing to do with the attractiveness of the victim. This is a misogynist, offensive trope. Again, I am flabbergasted at how someone with a PhD can be so face-palmingly stupid.

It's weird because the media was keeping careful track of which hosts got the best ratings and Mayim's ratings were at the very bottom.
Jeopardy is something I used to watch 30 years ago when I was staying with my grandparents and they accidentally left the TV on after Wheel of Fortune, so I'm a little puzzled as to why everybody suddenly cares so much about this show.

Man, the show’s producers really messed this up. First they announced all these guest hosts, making people excited. Then right after LeVar Burton hosts, they were all, “Just kidding! I, the producer of this show who didn’t impress anyone with my guest turn, am the new host and that was my plan all along! Why have someone charming and lovely like LeVar, when you can have me! Some mediocre white dude!”
And now it’s like, “Oh, and P.S. - here’s someone who is mildly off-putting and always steps in it and pisses people off with her comments to host the college edition! She was on that nerd show so it totally works!”

Not to mention Alex Trebek specifically said he wanted anything but a white male to replace him. That's actually what pi$$es me off the most.
