Apparently people were giving him shit on IG for his recent dramatic weight loss, to the point where he deleted pictures and turned off the comments. Then the tabloid rags caught a picture of him walking his dog and the caption was he was “showing off” his weight loss. Which goes a long way to show how effed up we are about policing other people’s bodies and how a certain segment of society has been programmed to always say that skinnier is better.
Then in the other side of that, I think about how he got himself into peak physical condition so he could play a superhero in Black Panther all while going through cancer treatment. Just...how?

That’s terrible of people. Now I remember the picture a few months back that sparked the concern. In Hollywood, so many actors drop weight for roles so I had just assumed it was for that. It’s not unheard of but you don’t really think of late stage cancer for someone in their early 40s. I’ve been thinking how the last few years, he should have been having the best time of his life. He hit his stride career wise, was in one of the biggest movies ever, had critical acclaim, got married, and the whole time he was fighting for his life. He must have been incredibly strong to manage everything. It’s absolutely tragic.

As others have said, this is just devastating. Count me among those that are amazed how he continued to work while taking cancer treatments.
Screen Rant thought the appropriate response to this news was to write an article with suggestions who could replace him in the Black Franchise. Like really? Don’t get me wrong I get many are wondering what Marvel might do. But couldn’t Screen Rant hold off until, I don’t know, his family had a funeral?

I follow Larry the Cat on Twitter. He's the cat at 10 Downing Street. Today's post was: Today, all cats are Black Panthers.
I'm still bawling.

Apparently people were giving him shit on IG for his recent dramatic weight loss, to the point where he deleted pictures and turned off the comments. I think he disabled his entire IG page for awhile. I don’t follow a lot of people, but I follow him, and happened to notice back in April the number of people I follow went down, but the number of followers I had stayed the same. Couldn’t figure out who it was, not it makes sense it was Chadwick. It breaks my heart how much we suck as humans. I love social media because it exposes me to so many things I’d never know, but man, people are awful. He was the perfect King in Black Panther. One of the things I realized is I bet Disney or Marvel would have never chosen him as T’Challa had they known he had colon cancer, it’s probably why he kept it private... to get a fair shot as roles. I also think about all those kids he visited at hospitals (St. Judes, I think) who were fighting illnesses and he was fighting his own.

I read somewhere that he was cast in BP in 2014, and he was diagnosed in 2016. Actors have to be medically cleared to work for insurance purposes so I presume Marvel bosses did know the situation. I’m impressed that it never leaked.
We watched 42 last night. It’s a pretty typical sports biopic, but Chadwick Boseman’s performance really stood out. He was incredibly gifted. And I loved the onscreen relationship he created with Nicole Baherie, who played Rachel Robinson. Sometimes “the wife” is a thankless role, but she was a bigger player in this, and in scenes with her Boseman could express Robinson’s doubts, fears, vulnerability, and determination. They created a great onscreen marriage. At the end of it I was so sad to know we’ll never see him in more films.
