All this. This is why I spend hours on Irish real estate sites.

There are some topics in history that are better left alone (especially during a period of national unrest.) I stupidly watched a documentary about the Tate/LaBianca murders the other night, and wound up practically losing bowel control when I heard someone coming into our house this morning (it was our housekeeper, who has her own key.) Next time I feel the need to watch a movie about history, it's going to be about the Carebears or something.

We watched Once Upon a Time in Hollywood last weekend, and the next day I went down an internet rabbit hole about what really happened. It sucks you in. The “You Must Remember This” podcast has a really good series about Manson, the murders, and the aftermath. (Though I did skip the episode that went into grisly detail about the murders; the host warned that that ep would be graphic, and I heeded her warning.)

The two edged sword of being a sentient human living in the LA area in the 60’s. Hiding under your desk during nuclear bomb drills. Being terrified every time a plane flies over your head. Smog alerts. Watts. Charlie Manson. Robert Kennedy assassination. Agent provocateur’s during collage anti war demonstrations/the reality that Kent State could have happened here. Earthquakes knocking down your library.

General conversation: Juneteenth is right around the corner. As a white person in a southern state, I have a respectful but arms-length sort of relationship with the holiday, like I do with Hanukkah or Diwali, but this year I think that might change.

Well, due to COVID, officially nothing social, but I'm planning to read and do some sort of action. Maybe I'll go to a cemetery.
