Eh, Clint/Natasha shippers have been so extra (they were shitting all over Bucky when Winter Soldier came out too) that on some level I've really soured on the idea of them getting together. And I shipped them in the first movie! That's not to say I like where Whedon took it in AOU, to be clear. I really don't get what he was going for at all -- apparently he wanted MORE of Hawkeye's farm scenes and Marvel told him no? Who did he think was asking for that? The first movie was like Good Joss and the second movie was like everything I've ever had a problem with in his previous works all rolled up into one.
The ideal ending, for me, would have been Bruce going into space (like he does in the comics) with the Sokovia asteroid, sacrificing himself. It would have been a great tragic ending for Tony, to lose his science partner to their mutual experiment, and it would have been a sensible way to cap off Bruce's storyline about not being safe for anyone anywhere. It would also have been a nice parallel with Tony's sacrifice in the first movie. Not to make it all about Tony, but that would have been the best (narrative) consequence for his mistake in creating Ultron.
...I think I actually liked the season finale of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. more than this movie, which is NOT something I ever thought I'd be saying.

Sending him off world would have been great. I think the whole Planet Hulk storyline would have been a fabulous next Hulk movie.

Have to join in with the dislike of Natasha/Bruce. The rest of the movie would have been glorious, messy fun, but that storyline was just so BAD. It was like a parody of a romantic drama, like when he fell into her boobs by accident in the Ultron scene. So. very. bad. I loved her chemistry with Hawkeye, and though I actually liked his family scenes (I may be in the minority on this one), it would just be more streamlined storytelling to cut that out of the film. It was like the movie couldn't go to point A, B, and C clearly, but instead veered out of control until the very end. On the plus side, I did love the Scarlet Witch and Vision. And I'm not exactly sure why, but both Captain America and Thor seemed a little muted in this movie. Usually, I find both characters more compelling. All in all, I would have been satisfied even with the movie's obvious flaws, but the character assassination of Black Widow and Hulk makes me angry all over again when I think about it. She was way more complex in the first Avengers and in Winter Soldier; here, she was transparent as glass. And yeah, Agents of Shield Season 2 was better than this, which is sorta sad (given its horrible first 75% of Season 1).

I have to admit, I loved the farmhouse scenes. Interior design porn is my thing. I tuned out the dialogue and just focused on the pretty layout of the open kitchen/living room. I want it!

Not to derail the conversation, but are there actually plans for another Hulk movie? I really like Ruffalo's Hulk, but I didn't care for either Bana's or Norton's movies and I'd think after two failed attempts the studio would be a little gunshy but maybe not?

The last I heard Universal still owns the rights for any solo Hulk movie but Marvel owns the rights to the character. Something convoluted like that. So when he appears in the Avengers they don't have to share profit but if they made a solo movie they'd have to split money with Universal and that's something they don't want to do. I don't imagine we'll see any Hulk movie until those contracts run out.

I guess I didn't go into the movie with any expectations other than being entertained for a couple of hours, and to that end I got my money's worth.

Just a reminder that we use spoiler tags on discussion of anything central to a plot in first run films...please post accordingly.

I was pretty disappointed in this movie. Way too much Hulk, Hawkeye and Ironman for me. I expected too much Ironman but who the hell wanted that much focus on Hulk or Hawkeye? Captain America and Thor were really muted in the movie. Plus, it reminded me of everything I hate about Whedon. He loves painfully thin women who are dependent on him for their careers and those are the actresses that get meaty storylines. I expected him to shove Black Widow aside like he has throughout his career to play with his new actress Olson. The idea that he is considered a feminist has always been a joke to me.
