The actress Gene Tierney had a daughter born deaf, partially blind and Palin due to her exposure to rubella during pregnancy. To be born partially Palin is the cruelest tragedy of all. (I know that was probably an auto-compete error, but it was too funny to pass up). And ME just straight up doesn't believe vaccines are necessary? She's an idiot. Plain and simple. I invite her to go to Africa and watch a child who cut his foot playing with his friends contort in agony because the Tetanus is making his muscle spasm painfully. And his jaw muscles snapped tight so violently that he bit through his tongue. And those muscle contortions and spasms will eventually cut off his ability to breathe. And his mother can just stand there and watch, unable to hug and comfort him because the slightest touch can send his muscles into another round of painful spasms. Then she can decide if vaccines as simply unnecessary. Oh, and Melissa - Tetanus is everywhere. Not just where poor people live. Your kids can easily be exposed to it in LA.

I've heard someone argue that "who needs a polio vaccine, nobody gets polio anymore." And why do you think that is, Sherlock?
I'd be pissed if someone who was carrying whooping cough or measles before it manifested itself (it's always contagious before symptoms show), got one of my infant grandchildren ill or infected a pregnant person. People just don't think.
Why won't ME pay child support? I mean, what's her logic there, does she think that's not necessary either? They are her children, she makes money. How can she argue that?

I've heard someone argue that "who needs a polio vaccine, nobody gets polio anymore." And why do you think that is, Sherlock? People don't get it -- they think because they don't know anyone who's had the illness, it must just be magically eradicated (and, again, why do you think that is?). Growing up, I knew a lady who'd had polio. It blew my mind because it seemed like such an "old-timey" disease, but it was a good reminder that the reason we don't see these diseases anymore is because of vaccinations. I was a kid when I knew her, and for years I didn't know why she wore leg braces (she was super cool -- she would let us swim in her pool, and she would have us time her to see how fast she could get her braces off and jump in the pool and swim a lap). When it finally dawned on me to ask my mom, "hey, why does [family friend] wear those?," I couldn't even wrap my brain around her answer. I was like, "Wait, people still get that?!" But my excuse was that I was a kid. Ugh, this place truly is where fandom goes to die. I used to love Melissa Etheridge. I hate hearing about what an asshole she really is. She "just doesn't think they're necessary." Must be nice to live in fantasy world, lady.

Is it normal among divorced parents for the custodial parent to have sole decision making power regarding health? To keep it on-topic, is Tammy acting within reasonable bounds? I know of someone in this exact situation. The anti-vax parent lost decision making related to health though there is joint physical custody.

Kostgard, I'm laughing at myself. I don't know where that came from. She wasn't even on my mind. Yeah, being born Palin would be awful.
That being said, is it possible that Melissa is doing this for publicity? after all, the issue has gotten Jenny McC a lot of it and a lot of slebs feel there's no such thing as bad publicity.

Without going too far off-topic, or into too much detail, do you know how this was decided? I was googling the Tammy-Melissa settlement and apparently the kids are supposed to go on tour with Melissa this summer, or were. Interesting life for seven year olds.

Without going too far off-topic, or into too much detail, do you know how this was decided? The anti-vax parent believes that inferior legal representation and court bias was at play. Their argument was mainly on religious grounds but there was expert (mainly doctors) testimony on both sides of the issue. Basically, the pro-vax evidence was more compelling in the court's eyes and they concluded it was in the children's best interest that the other parent have decision making power. It would be interesting to see what happened if Melissa actually put her money where her mouth is and put together a strong legal argument. But somehow I doubt she'll bother.

Who is the biological mother? If there was no marriage, as ME claims (therefore she doesn't need to pay spousal / child support), then she would have no more rights to the decisions about the children than a roommate of the same sex would. Seems to me you can't have it both ways.

I believe Tammy is the bio mother. All I keep thinking as I read this thread, is what a huge bitch Melissa is. Jesus.

People just don't think. Yeah, I would not be OK if I or one of my loved ones got one of these diseases from an unvaccinated person. And I'd like to be around someone saying something that stupid about polio in the presence of my Dad. He had polio when he was three/four years old. He was lucky and recovered completely, but he remembers spending a long time in the hospital and going through physical therapy to recover. He also remembers other kids that weren't as lucky as he was. As for Melissa...this just sounds like the latest in a string of selfish acts on her part. "She just doesn't think it's necessary." That's nice. I think I'll trust the SCIENCE of medicine over the OPINION of Melissa/the anti-vaccination crowd.
