I really didn't know much about him until last April. My bf and I were visiting NYC and stopped in a small coffee shop. While we were waiting on our order, I noticed a sad, kinda frazzled looking older man at the counter searching his pockets and messenger bag for his wallet to pay. I felt bad for him and was just about to offer to pay since it was only a $3 order but the barista was like "It's okay, don't worry about it. We know you're good for it next time". After we left my bf was like "that was Louis CK" and I'm like "who? I was going to offer to pay for his coffee" and then I had to look him up.
And I was very glad I did not buy his coffee then. And definitely even more so now.

Agree with much that has already been said here.
Ratscabies, I saw that documentary too, and it was very moving. Great example of comedy "going there" and still being funny. But those jokes weren't at the expense of the survivors.
Someone on FB said he thought that maybe CK was "unwell" because this latest work just isn't funny (and up to CK's usual quality), and he worried about his mental state. I said that it's ironic that masturbating in front of women isn't cause for worrying about his mental state, but being unfunny is. The guy didn't like that response. He said masturbating was a fetish with power dynamics, and that I didn't want to posit the #Metoo movement against the mentally ill, which I think is oversimplification.

Bad weekend for comedians. Louis CK put the nail in the coffin of his career and Tiffany Haddish bombed her New Year's Eve set.
Pete Davidson did what seems to me like a very unfunny (but not offensive, so good for him!) New Year's Eve set in which he said Louis CK "tried to get him fired from SNL". Apparently, Louis told Lorne Michaels back in 2017 that Pete just smokes pot all the time. It didn't sound to me like Louis was actively trying to get Lorne to fire Pete, just that he didn't think much of Pete's work ethic and said he was going to smoke away his career. (Little did Louis know that Pete was going to rebuild a career based entirely upon a 4-month celebrity romance and public threats of suicide!)
I saw that story and thought I was finally going to be Team Pete Davidson on something and then had to revert back to Team Comedians Are Just Messed Up.

Wow, so LCK was an equal opportunity career ruiner -- who knew?? At least Pete didn't have to witness him choking his pathetic, little chicken first (I guess/I hope).

Reading this thread, I finally realized Louis C. K. and Andrew W. K. are not the same person.

I'm a little surprised because I thought CK had so many comedian friends who had his back (including female comedians!) and going around throwing others under the bus doesn't seem like a good way to make friends. But, Davidson also strikes me as extremely oversensitive and could also be misinterpreting something Lorne/CK were trying to tell him for his own good - not CK "trying to get him fired". Why would CK really care whether SNL employs a slacker on the cast?

I am really doubtful of Davidson's story. Maybe Louis said something like that to Lorne... is it untrue? My sense is- comedians respect other comedians who put in the work. I would not be surprised if Louis didn't like Davidson because he doesn't really put in the work. Team no one in this case.
ETA: re post below: Yes, I 100% agree. Ultimately though I'd rather choose neither- as Davidson is no stellar example of grace and charm. (He's not Louis C.K levels of disgusting- but he is gross to me for many different reasons, not just his slacker ways but the way he seems to treat women isn't exactly ideal). Once again #TeamNoOne

I’ll take a slacker any day of the week over a guy who likes to corner women and masturbate in front of them and then have his manager threaten their career...

That’s a brilliant summary of our current problems, or as close as you can get to one in 15 tweets. Except for dumping on disco, which other people have already discussed with the author.
