I also still think Toby is the worst. YES! And I feel awful because I can't quite put my finger on why I don't like Toby. Randall and Beth are what the youngins say "#RelationshipGoals" Seriously people, that is how communication should be in relationships. And I love the William voiceovers. I hope we get more, but not too much where I lose appreciation for it. Superficial of me, but young Kevin is hot. I'd have a crush on him if I was still in high school. Adult Kevin is pretty easy on the eyes too. Too bad Teen Kevin is such a dick, but at least he grew up into a pretty decent guy.

Dear Lord - Mandy Moore just ripped my heart out when Kate unloaded on her. I want to know why my daughter hates me, too and now I'm sitting here sobbing.

"You existed" was way harsh. I mean, come on, she's your mom. if you think her encouraging words come off like little digs (which they do), tell her that. You don't have to belittle her existence

Kate was WAY over the top with her words to Rebecca. It seems that Rebecca means well with Kate and, if anything, maybe tries too hard. But she's hardly responsible for Kate's shitty self-esteem. Even the flashback when Kate decided she didn't want to sing showed not Rebecca saying "here, sing like this" and flaunting her superior vocal skills, but rather Kate overhearing her mom singing in the privacy of her shower.

I agree, Kate is far too hard on Rebecca. I cringed during that scene, although that was partly due to older Rebecca's bad hair. The stylists need to do something about that bob with the bizarre pieces hanging lower in the front. Blend them, eliminate them, do something else entirely, but it's really distracting me.
I loved the flashback to little Sophie laughing at Kevin's Mr. T impersonation. They are each others' lobsters.
I hope Jack doesn't cause the fire while drinking. I think part of what makes this show so appealing is that it depicts a family that while imperfect is still essentially a loving, functional family. I'd rather the fire be just one of those things that can happen to anyone rather than Jack's fault. Last season, Kate said he died because of her. Maybe Jack goes out a hero saving her from the burning house.

Last season, Kate said he died because of her. Maybe Jack goes out a hero saving her from the burning house. My guess is, Teenage Kate said the dog is still in the house, Jack goes back in to look for the dog, out comes the dog, but Jack gets stuck in the house. I'm getting teary eyed just typing this. Add me to the list where Kate's insecurity regarding her mom makes no sense. Heck, I even liked Toby more in this episode than Kate. Also, Randall and Beth. I love them. ETA: The episode tonight (10/10/17) absolutely wrecked me. Not really sure why. I think it's the little things that always hit me absolutely the hardest when I miss someone. I know meeting Sly Stallone is absolutely HUGE, but the reason its huge is because of the simple memory of watching him while they were sick.
Completely unfair of the show to just show William like that with no warning. I loved seeing that it was Annie that got him to stay on his first night.
And the dog! Argh! I stick by my theory that Kate asked Jack to go back inside the burning house to get the dog. Now I'm adding the fact that Kevin feels guilty as well because if he were at home, he could have grabbed the dog while running out instead of Jack having to do it.
I'm going to be inconsolable when we finally get to the scene where Jack dies. Kleenex needs to send me a truckload of tissues for that episode.

I'm wondering if Kevin actually feels more guilt and possibly might have been (or felt he was) indirectly involved in his father's death. It feels like his Daddy Issues might be worse than Kate's. And as someone with knee issues, he is really going to screw himself by taking short cuts there.

The twists are fun, sure, but it really is the small moments that make this show so well done, and so lived in. Another good one that had me misty-eyed.

Just when I think this show can't pull any more strings on my heart, they're somehow able to find another one. Jack having a brother, that he's protective of, and who probably died during Vietnam so he probably feels guilty that he wasn't able to protect him. The show will probably make us watch what Jack went through when his brother died may just push me over the edge and cause me to be a hermit for a few days.
I actually liked Toby today, mainly because he finally shaved that "curly q" that was on his forehead.

The brother thing threw me. No wonder Jack is really, really intent on Kevin and Randall looking out for each other.
I didn't want to, but I loved Toby's song and dance in the coffee shop. The actor really sold the joy.
"Black people will never be jealous of someone being auctioned off. Hashtag American history." God, Sterling K. Brown is a gift from the acting gods. Also, I love how Beth knows "cool dad" is really just a big geek and tries to dissuade him from busting him out.
