(I still say he dies trying to save the dog) It's being super telegraphed, what with Kate having this weird dog issue in present day and us already knowing the dog makes it, since Kate is clutching him in the flashbacks we've already seen. Ugh, next episode is going to gut me.

The note Jack left for Kevin -- yeesh. I don't blame him, but that was rough stuff.

Ugh, next episode is going to gut me. Plus she's said how his death is her fault. I'm really kind of annoyed that this penultimate episode of the show is being broadcast after the Super Bowl. Too much going on with the game, not knowing when it will be over, etc.

I certainly am glad I’m not the Crock-Pot social media manager right now. I wonder if NBC gave them a heads up?

So, we're finally going to learn what happened, what they have made us keep guessing for almost 2 seasons now, the event that has clue and misleads and red herrings, and the event that has ripped this family apart... ...after the Super Bowl?!?!?! Is that really the "entertainment" to watch after BBQ and pitchers of Margaritas and, I guess, Clam Chowder and Cheesesteak this year?!?!? I'm just trying to picture how that is going to go over at the party I will be at. This is going to be tough to watch. My brother in law is also recovering (hence the NA Craft beer company I posted on another thread), and I realize that he, too, needs to keep busy. Always gotta be doing something. This is not going to be easy to watch at all. Kind of makes sense from Super Bowl to Super Bawl. Because bawling is what I will be doing. I think the line that affected me the most last night was Randall telling Kevin "dad's been gone longer than we had him." Kevin getting back the necklace made me so happy. The guilt he must carry for a) being somewhere else when the fire occurs and b) his last interaction with his dad was awful and not in anyway the last conversation you'd want with a loved one.

I'm wondering if the dog thing is actually that Kate runs back in for him and then Jack goes in to save her/them and that's how he dies, hence her immense guilt.

I've always distrusted the crock pot, even before this show. I can't just leave an appliance that heats up to hot enough to cook food all by itself all day long!
It's rather well-timed by NBC to schedule this particular episode after the Super Bowl, considering that it's Super Bowl Sunday for the Pearsons as well.
I won't be able to see the ep for a few weeks (going overseas), but I'm not ready to watch it. It's going to be utterly heartbreaking.

I've used a slow cooker for decades, as have many people; I can't believe a tv show would have people throwing theirs out. Official Crock Pot company responds: www.washingtonpost.com/news/food/wp/2018/01/24/crock-pot-tells-this-is-us-fans-our-slow-cookers-wont-kill-you/?utm_term=.e9e453265833Besides, Jack and Rebecca got it 17 years earlier and it was already well used from that old couple. The old lady wanted to throw it out, so I blame old guy for killing Jack. Assuming he dies going in to save the dog at Kate's pleading. It seems obvious at this point, but the show is a master of misdirection. Who thought they were buying their house from the old couple? But then no, old couple is just the source of the assumed killer crockpot.

My thought is that they all make it out safely except the dog, but then Jack runs in to the house once he realizes Kate ran to save it. I feel like he dies saving Kate AND the dog. But you guys are right. The show is the master of misdirection. I usually see twists coming a mile away and This Is Us always fools me.

I found a recipe that will work for both events on Sunday! Murderous Meatballs!!! (I have not tried it, so I will take the credit, but not the complaints. You are welcome!)
