I was so excited when Celeste stood up at the end and demanded that Mary Louise be questioned as well. I am confused as to why that wasn’t part of the original structure of the case however. Why would Mary Louise not be questioned by Celeste‘s lawyer? But I have to say, I found Nicole Kidman’s upper lip so distracting this episode. I actually had to rewind things more than once because I missed what she was saying as I was focused on watching her say it.
I hate to sound like a TWoPer, but my fleeting, far-fetched theory was that while Bonnie was confessing to her mother, the little device that Skye brought into the hospital was actually recording her. Like Alexa or something. But BOOM to the revelation that she settled for Nathan!
Two more BOOMS for learning that the nanny helped manage Gordon’s stress and that Celeste had many hook ups.
I don’t care about Tori wanting to sleep with Ed. And I don’t know about her masturbation diary or whatever. But how do we have that scene of her coming on to him at the bar while her husband watches last week and it’s not addressed this week? And I don’t think the wedding dress that Madeline was wearing is the kind of wedding dress that Madeline would’ve selected.

Can the court legally order Gordon to pay for sexual services? Isn't that considered prostitution?
Kidman's top lip was very distracting but I'm also super annoyed by the sound editing - I have my volume turned up to just over 2 1/2 times the normal level and I'm still struggling to make out dialogue.
I think if Buzzfeed ever does a 'which one of the Monterey 5 are you? quiz I would bust the curve and come up as Ed.
Lovin' the Roy Orbison though.
Also, HBO is running a promo for A Blacklady Sketch Show that looks hilarious but I NEED to know what a Flintstone dick is. Them saying 'you have to use your feet to make it work' is not enough information.

The courtroom melodrama reminded me of How to Get Away With Murder or Ally McBeal. Cliche.
I could not believe the woman has Ed on her sex bucket list. Ed!?!? Get a better imagination, lady.
Reese’s song and dance in her wedding dress was another thing straight out of Ally McBeal. Ed walking in on her wasn’t heartwarming, it was another “these people should not be married” moment. Have we ever had a single moment of passion or love between these characters?
Bonnie got more character development this episode than in all previous ones combined. She needs help.
Renata’s husband. Not surprised at all. All of the men on this show are trash. They’re all terrible.

From the article: "the scenes seem truncated, the editing especially choppy". Yes. I always feel as if something is missing as a scene ends, and the credits always feel like an interruption.
The courtroom scenes are annoying as fuck, I can't believe Celeste's lawyer didn't question Mary Louise about her fitness. I haven't read the book, is she in it? Is that where it says ML killed her son?

Should've left well enough alone and kept it to one great season.

Last night's episode was the worst yet and that's saying something. I don't know whether all of the new information that came out on the stand about all of Celeste's hookups and drug episodes was withheld from us to emphasize how confused and full of holes Celeste's point of view is, or whether it was withheld from us because of poor editing, or whether it was withheld from us just for maximum impact because there's no suspense this season.
If Mary Louise killed her child, then why would Celeste have ever allowed her around the twins to begin with? And why has Celeste been treating Mary Louise like a marginally sane and decent person up until now when that's obviously not the case and Celeste knows her history?
Celeste has the worst, most unhelpful lawyer ever.

I just realized, with Vallee taking all Arnold's footage back to Montreal with him, that explains the Quebec Film tax credit at the end of every episode. I guess all the "11 editors" are Quebecois who work there as well. I have always wondered why on earth an American show, filmed in Malibu, with an apparently all American cast, qualified for a Canadian film tax credit, but there it is.

I was expecting to hate the episode in light of the article about Andrea Arnold getting sidelined by Kelley and Vallee, but it was so much worse. The original source material, the story and screenplay, are BAD. The basic logic of the story doesn't work, for all the reasons we've pointed out. They should've just claimed self-defense from the start. This is not how custody trials work. I think even if Arnold's direction had been left alone, I still would've hated this episode.
I don't think ML killed the brother, I think Perry did and she covered it up, unless something's been revealed that I've missed.

I've not read the book, I'm just referring to the the story and writing for season 2. The ending of the books makes sense, and they should've stuck with it.
