It's spot on but also really captures how little Kidman has to work with.

It’s just too bad. The first season was so good! It was the first show that captivated me in years. But this is so meh.

So....basically season 2 should have been a 2 hour movie if people really felt the need to follow up with these characters. Want a waste of time and resources. 1. Celeste finds her spine in the 11th hour, aided by a secret video the kids recorded of Perry stomping her out. 2. Jane is coached by her 7 year old to commit to a man that asked if she had some form of autism. 3. Ed spends an entire season being wishy-washy to ultimately decide he'll double down on being a doormat for a woman that never respected him. 4. Bonnie mopes for an entire season, spends 4 episodes fantasizing about everything, and finally decides to dump Nathan, possibly abandon her child, and not kill her mother. 5. Madeline. Did she serve any purpose this season other than not appearing sorry, or having any chemistry with her husband? 6. Renata finally does what she should have done in episode 1. It was cathartic and entertaining to watch, but too little, too late. 7. If Meryl Streep gets an Emmy for this hammy spectacle, I'll be furious. What an awful finish, to an awful season. Perfect example of people not leaving well enough alone.

They had the potential to really explore some things with these characters, but never really did. Though, someone on Twitter said that Laura Dern as Renata Klein should moderate all upcoming presidential debates and interject at will. I would pay to watch that.

I loved Season 1 and didn't think they needed a Season 2. I haven't watched it. I was waiting for it to finish and get the consensus. So should I waste my time on it?

Honestly, I think it boils down to how much you like the characters, because nothing of note happens. I enjoyed seeing the characters again, but was frustrated that nothing really happens.

If someone makes an all Renata cut, and uploads it somewhere, watch that. Otherwise, you can watch all seven episodes with your finger on the fast forward button. It's going to get a lot of use. kostgard wasn't kidding. Nothing happens.

I'm glad I bailed when I did. It was such a train wreck! I've been reading various recaps that have all said there will not be another season.
Which basically confirms that they knew it was a total shit show that should have never happened or as it was said, maybe make it into some sort of TV movie or whatever to give some "what happened after" or whatever. But not whatever this shit was.

So my initital gut reaction back in the day was spot-on: I'm a hard no to a second season. Don't go to the well too many times, HBO. Did the second season of True Detective teach you nothing?
