The (hopeful) Movie Event of the Summer. Vanity Fair compiles some of the good reviews so far. The trailer looks terrific, plus they use this new thing called COLO R!!!. Gal Gadot totally looks the part. Chris Pine looks charming and charismatic. And, look, the box office on this is going to be analyzed to death. For all you ladies of this website, your entertainment dollar will be scrutinized to death if you spend it on this film. Perhaps this will finally make Hollywood, the same place that's surprised by the success of Thelma and Louise, The Help, Outrageous Fortune, Beaches, The Blind Side, The Heat, The First Wives Club, Bend It Like Beckham, Mamma Mia! and many, many others, as well as it's own history with Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Norma Shearer, Katherine Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn, might finally FINALLY realize that... GASP! Women go to the movies too! Opening June 2nd. and because I can't resist.... the theme songYou Go, Girl!!!

I am so looking forward to this movie. A female superhero at the center, directed by a woman, and unlike other DC movies, so far the critics seem to like it. The final trailer was even better than the first one. They also released a bunch of clips. They don't give away much and really highlight the action and the humor. I think this movie is perfectly cast - both Gadot and Pine look great.

Pine is right up there on my pretend boyfriend list, just below Chris Evans.

Pine is the only reason I want to see this movie, which doesn't make me feel particularly great since I want to want to see a female superhero. Kudos to the producers for figuring out the right actor to cast to outweigh how non-Wonder Womany Gadot looks and how terrible Batman Vs Superman was.

Kudos to the producers for figuring out the right actor to cast to outweigh how non-Wonder Womany Gadot looks and how terrible Batman Vs Superman was. Just out of curiosity, what about her look don't you like? I personally think she looks great in the role. I know some people wanted someone more muscular, but really, if they had cast an actress who put on a lot of muscle or already had it, plenty of people would be mad about that (I know from just about every time I've bought a copy of Oxygen magazine at the store and the cashier makes some sort of "Ew" face at the cover model or comments, "Wow! She's...strong"). I'm not trying to call anyone out or anything, I'm just genuinely curious because, like I said, I think she looks great. ETA: I agree that Batman v Superman was terrible, but I don't think Gadot was part of the problem. And so far it seems the tone of this movie is much different, and probably has a story that actually makes some sense, which is good.

Honestly, she doesn't have to look like Ronda Rousey (or any other 'ew' muscular woman). Hell, if she looked like Lucy Lawless circa her Xena years, that'd be fine. There is just absolutely nothing about Gal Gadot that looks like an Amazonian warrior. She looks like an indistinguishable runway model cast to be conventionally slender and attractive, not even tall. (I had to look her up to see that yes, she is tall.) I feel like the only Wonder Womany thing about her is she's a brunette - and the studio probably feels reluctant about that.
BvS was SO bad I barely realized she was in it. I mean, her presence didn't help or hurt it. If anything, it just got ridiculous awfulness all over Wonderwoman.
But Pine is super cute and potentially might salvage all the above. Which is not how I wanted to feel about this movie.

Which is not how I wanted to feel about this movie. Yeah, I kinda wish everyone would just pretend BvS didn't happen. I would actually say the same for Suicide Squad, which was completely boring to me. I personally don't have a problem with Gadot's look, but I am happy to report that at least with some of the other Amazons on her home island they hired some actual athletes to play them. I saw some YouTube video made by some people who got to visit the set and they were falling all over one of the "Amazons" because she's apparently a big deal in the CrossFit world. I did notice that a number of the ladies playing Amazons that were milling around in that video were seriously ripped. ETA: I also appreciate that since the Amazons are supposed to be ageless, they could have gotten away with casting no one over 35. But they cast Robin Wright and Connie Nielsen in badass roles, and they are both around 50. This has another clip featuring the Amazons.
