I'll add some. She was terrible on Letterman last week--dull and couldn't tell an amusing anecdote to save her life. I know people admire her for how blank and uninteresting she is as a celebrity, but I like celebrities to be a little interesting--dress well, have a great spouse, be funny, have something interesting to talk about in interviews. A Tom Hanks level of interesting is fine.
And this is a big one: her movies suck. They may not be out-and-out terrible, but she's made roughly three movies in the past 15 years I'd even consider watching. If her value is solely in her acting, I think it's pretty important she makes decent movies. This Flight Plan shit is not on.

Tom Hanks doesn't have an interesting personal life, but he's damn good telling a funny story on Letterman/Conan. That's all I ask--and Jodie doesn't even do that.

She's not a personality, she's an actress. All she owes us is a good performance.

I don't any of her movies ever sucked. I have really liked many of her movies and only a few were less than great, (I loved Contact, a movie not alot of people "got") Like any other actor's career, they make a few duds, especially one that spans 30 + years.

I sort of agree with this. She has some awesome films on her resume - films great enough, imo, to give her a pass on some of her lesser efforts, but the majority of her films, imo, are pretty forgettable. I don't think she has ever been awful in a film - perhaps miscast, but I can't think of a movie made when Jodie was an adult where she totally sucked (although I haven't seen all of her films). She brings a lot to the table as an actress and doesn't seem content to coast on her past in the same way DeNiro does, but she doesn't seem to want to seek out intriguing, interesting parts in complex films the way Streep does, either.

Amen soccermom! I have lots of Jodie-love, always have. I read up on her whenever I can because we're the same age and I'm always chagrined that she's way way smarter, talented, expressive, and everything else, than me.

That's a very good point. I haven't seen a JF film in years and that's mainly because her choices don't intrigue me in the least. She's an actress i'd like to support in terms of going to see her films because I like and respect her but she does tend to play it safe which makes it hard to get excited about her movies.

The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting that three flight attendants groups are trying to organise a boycott of Flightplan, alleging that it portrays attendants as unhelpful, rude, and even criminal. I would give a link but you only get re-directed to register for the site. I guess Jodie should thank them for organising more press for her film.

That reminds me of way back when -- Basic Instinct, where the killer happened to be bi-sexual? And gay advocate groups were up in arms because the message of the movie supposedly was that, by its implication, all bi-sexuals are serial killers! By that reasoning, every time a movie has a heterosexual killer, all heterosexuals should be outraged. People just want to cause a stir, and logic be damned.
