The only way I think I could enjoy a Hallmark movie is filtered through the perspective of a drag queen, so thank you for sharing this!

I said this over at Primetimer, where I also post: Hallmark wants it both ways, and they're scared. Their base is evangelical Christians and they know it, but they're also bleeding viewers because people are turning to Netflix, Lifetime, and other networks that do the same comfort-food entertainment but with much better quality. They don't want to lose the white evangelicals, but they don't want to alienate potential newcomers either, which is why they pay lip service to inclusivity without actually being inclusive.
Oh, and the CEO was on a podcast a little while ago where he blamed the lack of diversity on the channel on the writers, saying that they don't get quality scripts featuring LGBTQ characters and POC. Except that plenty of writers have come out and said that Hallmark straight up tells them "white, cis-gender pod people only." It was an incredibly shitty thing to do, to throw writers under the bus like that. Dude's a prick.
Their series suck, and nowadays their movies suck too. The same boring recycled stories, with racist and homophobic undertones to boot. Team Netflix.

Everyone now knows (or knew before anyway) what a bunch of hypocrites they are. Too late.

ORDER SCRIPTS WITH LGBTQ LOVE STORIES. YOU’RE THE CEO. Writers are putting “Karen is a WHITE lady” in all their character descriptions? TELL CASTING TO IGNORE THAT. YOU’RE THE CEO. What a coward.

Yes, when I saw this story my first thought was "One Million Moms is still around? That's so 2006!" That CEO is a idiot.
I'm not in the evangelical bubble. Is marriage equality still such a huge issue there? I thought all that energy was now focused on ending abortion and immigration, and defending Trump.

I have to confess, cheesy, bland, predictable Christmas movies have been my refuge from politics for the last few weeks. But that bs with the commercial just snapped me right out of my happy place. I canceled Hallmark (I had the streaming version) screenshot the cancelation and sent it via PM to their FB page. I don't even care that they've reversed themselves. Gay Marriage is legal WTF were they thinking?

Is marriage equality still such a huge issue there? I thought all that energy was now focused on ending abortion and immigration, and defending Trump. I would compare it to racism in the Obama era. We thought we were doing so much better to elect a black president but it really brought out all the racists and now we have Trump in office. I don't notice people banging the drum down here about marriage equality but if Mayor Pete were elected president, I think it would be open season on "degenerate lifestyles." I was getting blood drawn at my doctor's office a few months ago and the person drawing it was wearing a huge cross necklace and I think earrings too. It was clear she loved Jesus. I mentioned something about going to Target (which is practically next door) after I left there and she made some weird statement about she'll no longer shop at Target because of her values. I knew she meant the gays. Then she went on about how she loves Wal Mart. I wanted to push her on it but she had a giant needle in my arm so I kept my mouth shut.

In addition to the gays, Target also did a thing a few years ago where they stopped labeling girls and boys toys, or something.
I'm not even sure where the evangelical bubble is these days, but I'm pretty sure the Youth are usually inclusive, don't blink at non-opposite-sex marriages, and so on. As an aside, a newish colleague casually mentioned his boyfriend the other day, and I wasn't sure what the proper etiquette is to let someone know that I am a safe space-type supportive person. So I just nodded, and let the conversation continue and suppressed the urge to ask all sorts of questions like how long have they been together, and do they have any dogs or cats.

I watched the Lea Michele Christmas movie on ABC, Same Time Next Christmas and it was a good antidote to Hallmark - they were a mixed race couple (Charles Michael Davis is really cute) with a gay brother who had a husband and child. Decent supporting characters and filmed in Hawaii, so beautiful to look at yet still Christmasy. Plus none of the baggage of supporting Hallmark, so an overall win.
