It looks from the video that there is a lot of debris on the lake bed. I’m not sure how deep it is where they were swimming, but she could have caught her leg or hair in a submerged tree branch.
We will probably never know.
I hope they find her body soon. The wait must be agonizing for her family.

The lake itself is 1,200 acres and can reach depths of up to 130 feet. The area they were in was allowed for swimming. One of the Ventura Co. Sheriffs were saying that there are some whirlpools or the like that have caused people to drown, as well as large gusts of wind that contribute to this and can also push the pontoons further from where you come up and then you can't make it back. TMZ is reporting that her mom and brother came out to search and there is this incredibly sad picture of her mom on her knees looking out to the water with her arms stretched. God. My heart aches for the family and her little boy.

The body has been confirmed to be Naya. I'm so sorry this has happened, but glad that the family will get closure.

This is so tragic. It’s just one of the worst things that can ever happen. I’m glad they found her body. Obviously, the best case scenario was that they find her alive somehow but at least her family can bring her home and lay her to rest now. I hope it gives them some kind of closure and peace, although I don’t know if that’s even possible in a situation like this.

It is heartbreaking to have her death confirmed, while at the same time, it is a relief they were able to find Naya's body relatively quickly. In addition to the closure for her family, some of the conspiracy theories online were starting to get out of control and I hope this can at least put a damper on them (although the internet being what it is, I'm sure some people will persist).

At least her family knows for sure now and aren't hanging on to false hope. Very sad.

Just so tragic & heartbreaking. From Buzzfeed News (Can’t get the stupid link to work)
Ventura County Sheriff Bill Ayub told reporters at a news conference that based on the body's condition and physical characteristics, as well as the location it was discovered, authorities were confident it was that of Rivera.
Ayub said the boy told investigators he had been swimming with his mother when she boosted him from behind into the boat and he then saw her disappear under the surface of the water.
Her body was found floating shortly after 9:10 a.m. Ayub said searchers believe Rivera's body had spent days tangled in shrubbery on the bed of the lake before it rose to the surface.

OMG the details of her using her last bit of energy to get him into the boat just breaks my heart. May her memory be a blessing to that little boy.

Naya performed my favourite song on Glee. I will always think of her when I hear Valerie.
