He won't be gone for long, hello DC. Joss had said he would be interested in directing a DC film and he probably would have no interference from the studio.

I don't know. The studio dealing with DC is trying to create a linked up universe now like the studio dealing with Marvel has. Nolan's Batman was great business, but it ultimately screwed them over in that it's a closed franchise, which is why we have Superman vs. Batman coming up. I think DC is a mess right now (Green Lantern flopped, Wonder Woman is stalled/has staff turnover). There's no way they would give him the kind of control Nolan had. They're trying to connect dots and failing right now.
To top it off, would Whedon even want to turn around and do what he did with the Marvel universe again? This is the guy who makes weird/cult TV shows and modern Shakespeare flicks out of his home. He seems hella bitter and burned out these days. He's been shooting off his mouth. Pissing off one studio so publicly doesn't help you hop to another.

I think he'd be great at DC but also that he sounds really done with big-budget, studio films for a while. I'd love it if he did something with his Whedonverse company again.

So I came across some excerpts of Whedon's Wonder Woman script yesterday on tumblr. Egads! It was nasty, sexist drivel, all from Steve Trevor's POV. I'm so glad he didn't get to make his version.
