I think he was mostly weirded out by the audience and the fact that he wasn't there to talk about issues, but basically for Oprah to sit there and talk about how great he is - something he's never seemed comfortable with.
He also looked like he wished Cameron Diaz would just shut up - a wish I shared. I actually kind of felt sorry for her because she was so obviously out of her league.

I didn't see him on Oprah but did watch a bit of the O: After the Show stuff. While I don't think he's much intimidated by screaming, clapping fans I do think he was stunned at how stupid Cameron Diaz really is and the inane stuff she tried to interject to a conversation that was way over her head. Jon was nice answering audience questions and the capper of O asking him the "if you could have 8 people to a dinner party, including yourself, who would you have?" game which he tried to blow off but ended up having to pick a few people just to get Oprah off his ass (and I suspect, to be nice since it was her show afterall...)

Resurrecting the thread.
I went to one of his book readings years ago. He was lovely, kind, and chain-smoked whenever he wasn't signing the inside page.

Oh man. I love him. Although I was sad to see a picture of him recently at a hurricane relief benefit and he looked -- just rough. A big paunch, and kind of grizzled and unhealthy looking. You know you love a celebrity when you think they look like crap and instead of saying, "Ew!" you start worrying about their health.
My only nitpick with him: I think he's a brilliant interviewer most of the time, but occasionally he gets all fanboyish and all a-squee over certain celebs (did anyone see the recent Gwyneth interview?). He goes from being quick witted and hilarious to a complete tool. It makes me cringe for him. Where's the dignity, my fake news fake boyfriend?

Smart is sexy, and he's the one keeping me from swan-diving off a skyscraper for the next, oh, 3-plus years. I do love him so.
So, I missed him on the Emmys last night. Anyone know where I might find a link to his skit?

I'll give him a chance when the show airs (I'd never give up the Oscars on account of the host) but I can't say I'm excited about his hosting. I think he's hilariously funny, but I just don't see his type of humor doing a lot for the Oscars. The host that have always been the best do well with Hollywood-based humor (Johnny Carson, Billy Crystal) When they get hosts who are funny in another area and try to mold them into Oscar hosts, it just never seems to work.

Oh look, a Jon Stewart thread. ;D
He is officially hosting the Oscars.
BTW, that might be the second time I made that mistake with his name.
