I love Jon, but I'll have to wait and see how this goes. And really, it depends on what they let him do. I don't think anyone has done well with hosting the Oscars except for Billy Crystal, and it mostly had to do with the show's format and the way the producers set things up.
As an example, I think Ellen Degeneres has done a fabulous job hosting award shows in the past, but the last one she did (the Emmys?) the format was so bad she completely bombed. It wasn't her fault, it was the way the show was set up.

And as I recall, Jon didn't do so well when he hosted...The Emmys? Or the Grammys?
My favorite host in recent years has been Steve Martin. At least it's not Whoopi Goldberg again.

Jon was breifly mentioned in February's Mother Jones in an article titled, 'Why Women Can't Win for Trying' that featured tidbits like, "Over her career, the average working woman loses $1.2 million to wage inequity." Jon's tidbit was, "86% of guests on Sunday-morning political talk shows are men. So are 80% of the guests on The Daily Show." 80%? Nice. And no female writers. Plus, they are apparently replacing Sam Bee with a guy correspondent. Pretty gross.

I'm very happy about this. He's very quick, funny and deferential enough to those ego-driven stars. He'll do great.

...So? I'm not a big fan of Samantha Bee. IMO she's a cheap Nancy Walls, who was a cheap Beth Littleford. If they're replacing her, I highly doubt it has anything to do with sexism. Isn't the Daily Show produced by Lizz Winstead? And didn't she sue Kilborn for sexual harrassment--Or am I thinking of somebody else?
Anyway, it sounds to me like his comment was most likely taken out of context. I've been watching the Daily Show since I was in 8th grade (and I'm almost done with college now) and I have never heard him say anything that could be construed as sexist.

Isn't Samantha Bee on maternity leave?

One of the best bits of the year played on her pregnancy. It was the "Osama's homo-bortion, pot-and-commie jizz-porium" episode.

Damn! I'm so sorry I missed that!
Jon made a pretty funny comment last night about hosting the Oscars. He said, "It's odd because I don't know much about movies...except that I'm not good in them."
IIRC, his stint hosting the Grammys was amusing, but his jokes were lost on the blockheads (Bitty, Xtina, and their ilk) in the audience. Hell, the Academy Awards probably won't be much different.

I remember that! I don't remember what this one particular joke was (though I do remember thinking it was funny), but I remember most of the audience sitting there looking at Jon with blank expressions on their face after he told it - except Tim McGraw. Tim was laughing his butt off. It made me like him.
Yeah, the audiences at this show are used to jokes about J-Lo's butt and Bill Clinton jokes (even though they are now about a decade old). They really only care about whether or not they win and how they look on camera. Jon has his work cut out for him, but he did fairly well with the little bit he did on the Emmys this past year.
