Kostgard, I was meaning to say it all night in the Oscars thread, but never got around to it: I LOVE YOUR AVATAR & CAPTION! Topic: BerryBearie, you and I must be of the same mind because I too loved Steve Martin hosting. I think I loved Jon a bit more though! Thanks - the avatar comes courtesy of Lucy in the Sky. I also liked Steve Martin as a host and wouldn't mind seeing him back.

So, what do you all think? Will they ask him back? I thought he did a great job. Tough room though.

I thought he did a great job. But take my (very biased) opinion with a grain of salt, because I have an irrational love for Jon. He could have come out doing fart jokes and I would have loved it.
But still, I thought he was good. I hope he gets asked back. For once, I thought there were some smart jokes at the Oscars.

I can't see why they wouldn't ask him back. The only joke that really flopped was the "2 Baldwin Brothers with talent" joke. The rest got at least a smattering of laughter and there were some huge laughs later on in the show.
However, if the ratings for the night are awful, they could blame Jon's hosting turned away viewers.

Which would be so unfair -- don't the ratings typically correlate with the popularity of the best picture noms? None of this year's had a US gross over 100M IIRC.

I think he did great! The show itself was very, very boring but that's because they picked randomass montages. He was much better than Chris Rock. I'd like to have him or Steve Martin next year.

I thought Jon Stewart did an okay job. But it's really annoying when people say things like, "Oh, well if he doesn't do well it's because his humor is too smart!" It reminds me of how a lot of Arrested Development fans were seriously saying how you had to be stupid to not like the show (because AD had smart humor, and so AD fans were smarter than everyone else!!eleventy!) .
I got his jokes, I just didn't think that they were that funny (there were a few good ones in there, though).

While I thought Jon's jokes were smart, it doesn't mean that you have to be smart to find them funny. I just appreciated Jon not doing dumb jokes like the "dick flick" introduction to Brokeback Mountain. Billy Crystal's jokes always struck me as doing dumb jokes as well.

The person that did thier Oscar coverage is just a crankypants to begin with. They didn't seem to have a nice word for much of anyone, and thought that the ceremony was booooring, period. So, I would take her Stewart comments with a huge, horking bit of salt.
