He seems to believe that his horrible behavior as a result of all his addictions should have no negative consequences. I heard Jon Cryer on Howard Stern the other day ago say after all that insanity when Charlie and Two and a Half Men parted ways that Charlie was saying nasty things about Jon Cryer (who was his friend and had nothing to do with the Chuck Lorre feud) like he was a troll and that after it was over and Charlie emerged from his drug and alcohol induced haze, Charlie said "hey man sorry about all that bull shit." He clearly thought that was no big deal. Jon also said at Charlie's wedding to Brooke that Martin Sheen stood up to toast and everyone was expecting something wry and elegant and Martin simply said "hope you two kids know what you are doing" and sat down.

Have there been any other scandals with Charlie's siblings or is he just a black sheep? I don't recall hearing anything about Emilio Estevez, for instance.

Well, and given the outcome, it's a pretty good toast. Martin Sheen probably felt like he and his wife weren't going to be able to raise any and all kids that Charlie and Brooke might have. I'd feel differently if he'd given that toast to a young person who hadn't yet proven that they were going to be a completely self destructive screw up.

IIRC substance abuse issues run in the family, but I 'm unclear about the asshole-ish-ness, the attraction to prostitutes and porn stars, the cruel, angry rants and the (alleged) putting a hit out on people. Was Charlie crazy and using the drugs to self medicate? Was he fine and the drugs made him crazy? How did he get here? His housekeeper has probably seen and heard some things. |

Yeah, there are a ton of addiction and coping issues in my family, on both sides. Usually I have great empathy for people who struggle. My heart truly feels for them. But Charlie...is a different beast altogether.
